Update on the pups!
Hello!
I thought it was time to post a few new pictures of the gerbils (as if I hadn't posted enough pictures lately, right?)
I had just uploaded this pictures, even though they are a bit old... One night I thought that Deb looked extremely pregnant... so I took a few pictures of her:
Sleeping
Hanging on a corner
Standing looking at me
The day after I took these pictures, she gave birth... lol
Well... Here is a cute picture, mommy gerbil nursing the pups:
Now, here is a disturbing picture... daddy nursing the pups:

Here is Hammy:
Here is his/her sibling:

How cute! Was the short tailed one just formed like that or do you think mom pulled part of the tail off during the birth? If it's naturally formed like that, you could have a new breed on your hands! Short-tailed gerbils!! It would be interesting to breed that one when old enough and see if you get any short tailed babies out of it!

He was born with it like that. Hmmm.. interesting thought about breeding it.. but I don't know what other health problems might carry that malformation... or even if it's genetic... besides... I love gerbils long tails. 8) If he's male Imight keep him... to keep Porto company.... Porto is alone at the time (well.. sharing a divided cage with Deb, Link and their pups)

I remember reading on another site a girl buying a tail-less gerbil from the pet store, and saying how ALL the gerbils had no tails there. I can't remember if it was a breeding thing, or if the breeder removed the tails before sending them to the pet store... But I do recall something like that.
I have a neighbor bugging me to breed mine right now, so he can have a pair for his family.... Such a hard decision, to breed or not to breed

I remember that post too..
I think the person thought that the tail was removed by the breeder... 8( Hmm... the little guy is definitevely a golden agouti.. but I'm still not sure if it's male or female...
That's a hard decition to make... Specially since what you have are already stablished groups 8(
