Question

Wondering

Hi,
I have two brown, white and black Gerbils...Daisy and Dixie ( Well I now know Dixie is a male so I need to change his name)
One of my moms friends gave them to me after mine died ( she was 5 yrs old ) She told me they were both female so I had them in the same cage together. Well I woke up one morning to find that Daisy had had 3 babies, Their almost 6 weeks old No problems at all.
I got Dixie and Daisy when they were 6 weeks old so I know that it's her first litter and she done great as far as taking care of them. Well I want to keep all of them but I don't want no more babies.
So I have a few questions and I haven't been able to find any good sites that answer them.
1. Can I get another cage and keep females in one and males in another or do males fight??
2. How can you tell a male from a female...I don't want to find out to late again.?
Sorry these sound like beginer gerbil parents question but My first one was kept alone and I did read that they do better in pairs so thats why I got both Dixie and Daisy..
I would really apprecite any comments/suggestions
Thank-you in advance
P.S.
I'm trying to get some pics of them to put on here but they just won't hold still...

1) Yes, please seperate ASAP, you will allready have litter #2 on the way, as Mom & Dad mate as soon as the baby gerbils are born. So if U can get Dad out into a tank with his sons now you won't have a third litter. And no, males live better in larger groups then females do, b/c females are more territorial.

2) Here are some links -

NGS Site - http://www.gerbils.co.uk/gerbils/gender.htm
If there is a "buldge" on the back end of the gerbil it's a male

Also check out this site for more information on gerbil care - AGS
