flea and tick control
I need to use something for flea and tick control next spring. I was wondering if anyone has used Perma-Guard D-20? It is an earth friendly product with no chemicals that I could use to treat my yard. They also have other products that one could use on dogs, cats and livestock,etc.. The website is: www.dirtworks.net/Diatomaceous-Earth.html

Ive never heard of treating your yard before but it sounds like a good idea. But what about when you take your dog for a walk? They could also get fleas then, couldn't they? Or would you use both? Earth friendly sounds great!

Earth frindly does sound great...um,but if you treat your yard there is nothing stopping fleas from jumping on you or your pet during walks, encounters with otheres, someones else's house etc...like marmalade said. your vet should carry all those monthly treatments that are given directly to your pet and that will stop fleas almost immediatly.such as Advantage, Frontline, Interceptor and others

I don't want to use it for my dog. I have an area of my yard where I allow my rabbits to run. It is a large enclosed pen which has a cover over it to protect my rabbits from hawks. There are grapevines along the fence which offers my rabbits plenty of shade. Once I put the top on the pen, the vines grew over the top, which attracted beautiful birds, and it looked so heavenly. The birds carried with them rabbit ticks (Haemaphysalis leporispalustris) which then were transfered to my rabbits. These ticks can carry disease, so I want to make sure this does not happen again. I did remove the vines, but I need to make sure the ticks are gone. My rabbits had to be treated with Ivermectin to remove the ticks. Revolution can be used on rabbits, but my vet isn't sure that it will work on these types of ticks.

I would like to add that I found 3 dead cottontails in my yard on 3 different occasions. It was not until I found the ticks that it occured to me that these rabbits may have died from a tick related disease. Had I known the ticks were in my area, I would have had one of the rabbits checked for diseases. None of the cottontails appeared to have died from preditor attack. Sick rabbits can be easy to catch, and some diseases are zoonotic, so if a child were to catch a diseased rabbit, the disease could be passed to the child. I would like to treat a number of areas in my yard and my neighbor's yard for these ticks, so if anyone knows what can be safely used to treat our yards without harming animals, please pass on that information.

I just go with the monthly treatments. I find it to be the easiest way to protect my job.

I agree with just monthly treatments. Revolution is an awesome product. I would NEVER use anything else. I tried everything on my cat and they didn't work.
I would just stick with a monthly treatment.

I use Revolution on my cat, but it is full of chemicals and such, so people looking for natural wouldn't like it. But the vet recommended it.

I've never heard of that, but I use Revolution for all-around flea/tick/heartworm control.
