"Plastic Runner" = Those things I find in Grandma's house that go over the carpet so you don't wear it (even though she has a strict NO SHOE policy). It has those nasty pokies on the other side that "others" like to play bad jokes with, by turning it over, and you walk on it unaware, and OUCH!
The making of the box is not that bad, I've never made anything in my life and made a HUGE condo (3 levels) and it's worked for 3 years now. If you do accidentily cut through packaging tape will seal the boo boo, I have a few taped spots. Also, when cutting it helps to have a straight edge to cut along (yard stick) so your cut does not go willy nilly.
Good luck!

Well the plastic runner is the material people use to but down over the carpert to protect it. they call is carpet runner. Helps prevent wear and tear of your carpet. I am sure it has many other uses. but it has been what I used on my very first cage. Although the coroplast is a better option. But maybe not for you. I am sorry but I have to laugh at you adventures with the coroplast. I could only imagine you nearly flying like a kite with it. The pieces are very biga nd hard to manage and at times will not even fit in a car. It is a good idea when you get it all cut to size, that you try and save the remainder,if you have room for it. We have used the pieces on the bottom for our foster and babysitting cages. Comes in handy.
Good luck in your cage building. Your piggies will love you for it,remember.
Is there a guinea pig rescue in your area?

Lots of zip ties, shelf brackets, dowels, pvc pipe, and clips to keep the doors shut.

Did I forget to mention it took 16 hours to build and it did happen in one day?
My pigs were in a pen (25 of them) in my kitchen on the floor. Lets not disuss the mess I had to clean up afterwards!

Sam: "Hey, Leslie, where did that lunatic put us?!?"
Leslie: "My god, I think he left us in the middle of the Sahara Desert."
Sam: "I'm lost. Is that some lettuce way over there over that sand dune?".
Leslie: "Maybe. Let's wait until dark and check it out."

So, my first thought was why do I need the Organize-Its when a bigger piece of coroplast would have supplied adequate sides?
It is much less easy to do when you do NOT have enough floor space to put the big hunk of coroplast down and get on your knees with a knife and straight edge. So I had to do everything standing up: marking, scoring, cutting, bending, and taping.
Yes, the dimensions were slightly off courtesy of me, and the Sign guy's worker made it worse, so one side is too big and one too small. Doesn't really matter though.
So, things are more crowded here than normal, but these guys got their Christmas present. Now to find old boxes and stuff for them to run around in and hide in; there will be plenty after today. Rigth now a big hunk of cardboard is over half the habitat to keep them calm.
They really could have managed with a little less room. My living room is nearly uninhabitable now!

Looks good though!!! I bet you will see them do more speeding around once they become acclimated.

LOL... I have to walk through my guinea pig cage to get to the other side of my room where my hamsters, mouse, and fish are. It does look good though... With the coroplast being higher on the sides it will be perfect for a grid hayrack. My dog likes to pull the hay out all over the place because I didn't make my side tall enough.
