Ewwww...maggots!
To my horror today,as I was distrubuting hay to my foster boys - there were maggots in the hay!!!!
They got everywhere and I had to clean and disinfect everything.I disinfected everything, just to feel better...but the maggots were clearly IN the hay...which I had to throw away.It has been humid here lately and I guess the hay proved to be a good spot for maggots...
It was so gross!
Just thought I would share this "pleasant" story with you.
However I always thought maggots preferred rotting, dead things or poop??? This was fresh hay!

eww, but really maggots aren't as gross as we like to think, they are simply baby flies... so don't get too grossed out about it, finding them in hay is better than finding something dead in hay with maggots

Yes they are just flies, with the hay and being warm and humid they decided to lay eggs there or something. Nasty though.

Oh I know they are baby flies.
I also seen a show last week showing doctors putting maggots into people's wounds, because they only eat the dead skin/cells,helping promote healing.
But when you find them in hay...thats just disgusting!
Maggots do gross me out.I got rid of the problem now anyway.

Ugh, I can sympathize. For whatever reason, there have been a lot of them right outside the house lately. Sometimes there will even be some on the steps, it kinda bothers me, haha.

This happened to me once with my guinea pigs when I was younger. We also used hay (it was alfalfa hay). It was the most nasty thing ever. I don't like creepy crawlies!

Earwigs creep me out too. I found one in the shower the other day and i drowned it and didn't feel too bad (I feel bad if i kill a bug)
There are always a bunch of earwigs out near our one shed. If I see them I just step back and let them scatter.

Nah...the geckos probably won't eat them.Too small for the geckos.
Hahaha...I have TONS of earwigs around my house.Little ones and big ones and they like to collect into a huge mass under the garbage (I put the garbage out by the door) and when I go to put the garbage out for pick-up...there are TONS of earwigs under it.They don't really bother me.
