Guinea Pig cough

I just got the pigs new x-large cage built, took me forever to find a suitable floor.

The cage is one level and is 27inches across by 57inches long.

Anyway, to the problem.

The bars that make up the cage came from an old shelving unit from a store and has a bar midway up the side which I used to rest the water bottle on.

Unfortunately this seems to be just a bit too high. I stayed in the room reading a book waiting for one of the pigs to try and use it to see if the height would be a problem.

My adult pig was drinking out of it and I think she inhaled a little water because she started coughing a little in the middle of drinking.

Should I just keep a close eye on her, she hasn't coughed since this happened, or should I go hunt down some mild anti-biotics to give her for a little bit just to make sure?

I would just watch her and if the water bottle is too high they might drink it "down the wrong pipe". I don't think you need vet help yet, but if she keeps coughing I would certainly get it quickly checked out.

Probably just adjusting to the new height is all. _

It's not unusual for pigs to drink too enthusiastically and then have to cough a bit to clear themselves out when it goes down the 'wrong hole' (so to speak). I wouldn't treat that with antibiotics.

Excellent to hear!

I was scared she would get URI from some water. I have made a lower bar with some wire on the outside of the cage so it now has a lower position to sit on.

Thank you all for the help. =)
