Hairless Piggies? - Paw Talk

I have been reading on line that there are piggies out there that are hairless...or nearly hairless rather..yet I have never seen them...are they common and does anyone have any pictures to show?

look at the pigs on the site, scroll down about half way and look at the Peruvian one, it says its hair can grow to be over a foot long.

really a complete opposite of the hairless.

I think they're cute- they're all cute. Hairless animals have a bad lot, though. They need special heating, they get skin abrasions and cuts easily, and they generally live about half the normal life expectancy of their species. And never forget- these animals have no hair because scientists bred them that way in order to use them in pharmeceutical labs to test self-tanning lotions and eye shadow. Not to mention the risk of tainting genetics- it would only take a few unconscientious hobby breeders passing out hairless carriers for it to cause the lines of a species to be so tainted that in 50 years we would be making posts about have you heard about guinea pigs with hair? Where can we see pictures?

ahh..i ve seen it all now! lol...the dark colored pigs are cute...however most of them has hair around their mouth...and that kinda freaks me out...cute but wierd..lol..i think i would stick to those with hair! lol...however i would def adopt one if he was dropped off and had no place to go

I have a skinny pig.......I love her to death! She has a little hair on her head and nose so we called her Brillo because my hubby figures we could use her to scrub the dishes. Just kidding of course about the dishes.

She is a rescue, her first owner wasn't able to deal with her needs so I told her I would, sight unseen....... I tell you, working in a pet store you see alot of different things but this.....well I will admit "mange" was going through my head

Then she looked in my eyes and I fell in love. She is 2 years old and priceless. I have sweaters and scarfs for her. Very tiny ones because she is half the size of a normal Cavy. I will put up pics once I get them loaded up. She really is a great cuddle muffin.

aww...that is so sweet! I would def love to see pics! is she your only cavy?

I would really like to have a skinny pig but they cost around £80 to £100 (same sort of price as a hedgehog)! I'm only 16 so I can't spend that kinda money, I already have 13 guinea pigs anyway! It would be nice. I do think they are a little freaky though. It is sad that breeders have bred them like that and will continue to do so.

I think skinnies are cute, at first I was a little taken aback by their unusual appearance, but after a while you can't help but want to snuggle them!
