How do you tell the sex? Fresh Foods?

I was looking at some pics but I'm still slightly confused as to what my piggy is. I just got Ziggy on Sunday He/She is about 6 weeks old. I can't wait until I can get pics to show off. lol Also I've heard some discrepencies as to what fresh food are good for them to eat(lettuce, celery, ect), any suggestions? I don't want to give my piggy something bad. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

Congratulations!

Have you read http://www.guinealynx.info/diet.html and http://www.guinealynx.info/sexing_pups.html ?

www.cavycages.com is a fantastic source of information, too.

Oh, and does your piggy have a friend? They are very social and apart from a few rare exceptions, they need to have one.

Gender:

Males - it looks like a letter 'i'.

Females - it looks like a letter 'Y'.

With a male, if you also push down on his abdomen right next to his genitals, something will invariably "pop" out. You need to push for at least a minute (in that times length even if you were doing it wrong something should pop out.)

Good luck, and if that does not fail, a cavy savvy vet in your area should know what you have.

I never saw the need to push anything. That only occurs when in unusual cases the 'i' and 'Y' method fails. With all six of mine it is very obviously a 'i' and 'Y'.

Hey as for veggies, mine absolutely go crazy for red leaf and romaine (about 1 cup for an adult piggie) and a few pieces of red bell pepper. An occassional piece of an orange or grape is a nice treat.
