Mites or lice?


So i was talking to someone on my cam and he saw my guinea pig scratch and he instantly thought that there was mites or lice he told me to go find a horse supply store and buy this 30 dollar shampoo or but it online and this is such of a major thing to him can anyone tell me what to do to see if they have mice i highly doubt they do i had a vet checkup and he said everything was fine with the guinea pigs what would i look for for mites they have no hair loss or scabbing or pain, they are also very friendly and tame

First off, DO NOT buy the horse shampoo or your pigs.
Second, your piggie most likely doesnt have mites if he just scratched himself... He could just be itchy!
If he has mites/lice,there would be hairloss and such like you said. I think the guy on the webcam was over reacting.

he probably is over reacting.

If you guinea pig has mites he will probably have hairloss, be scratching a lot and have scabs. Mites you CANT see. If your guinea pig has live, he will be doing the same thing but lice you can find.

Mites commonly manifest FIRST as scratching, and hairloss isn't present until the pig starts scratching hair off of itself. If he's itching, I would go ahead and treat for mites.
