i agree with every thing you say

Hey guys, please keep it civil.

I realize that alot of people here are passionate about rescue and not breeding but the orginal poster is not asking for your opinions on that. The guinea pig is already expecting so now is not the time for lecturing. How about you help educate on feeding, pregnancy, and what to do to help the little ones thrive instead of trying to make her feel bad?

Thank you.

Thanks Scarlette! I'm glad to see moderators on a site that try to keep the peace. It can be a really hot topic, but it's important to remember that everyone has to make thier own choices and explaining your position instead of attacking someone for their decisions usually brings a better reaction. On most of the forums that I have belonged to, the fear of being flamed for something they say is truely what keeps people from posting and keeping forums active. Good luck with the baby guinea pigs. I hope all goes well!

Thank you Scarlette !

I Know about the overpopulation and how many millions of animal are put to sleep everyday because poeple just put them in animal shelters becuase they are to lazy to either take care of them or to find them new homes. We are not going to just give them to anyone. In fact I have two poeple that all ready say they want one. Plus, Bre may take one but she hasnt decided yet. Also, anyone that takes one of the babies have to agree that if they can no longer keep there pets that they come straight back to us. I am not leting any of them go to just anyone. I have had a guine a pig that came from a shelter as a baby. I am not going to let any animal in my care ever end up like the poor animals in the shelter.

How about instead of critisizing, you educate her on how to help her guiena pig through it and how to do this and stuff?? I think that would be more affective than critisizing and being rude! Might be a little bit of a hot topic, but being rude surely isnt going to help anything!! Instead lets help the little guiena pig Princess through this! Ok?

Shes a breeder and this is buisness along with loving her guiena pigs! Whats so wrong with it? Yes, I know there are homeless guiena pigs, but there has to be breeders instead of people getting sick guiena pigs from the pet store. Without breeders there would be only people getting guiena pigs from pet stores.

Actually, there are guinea pigs in rescues and shelters, just like with dogs and cats. So if people do research they can save those that are about to be euthanized. (I work for one. Trust me, there are homeless guinea pigs to be had.)

I have to admit, I think it's scary to be requested to "educate" someone with a pregnant animal. If they've purposefully bred their animals, I'd think they'd have done research on it.

Maybe you should look on petfinder. There are hundreds of guinea pigs in shelters right now that need homes. That is where I got all my girls from.

There is nothing wrong with breeding guinea pigs...but if she already calls herself a "breeder" then why does she need our help? to me it sounds like she's gonna start a business...and there is nothing wrong with that either, but dont put a title if indeed you dont know what you are doing in terms of healthy breeding, bc putting a male and female= babies formula doesnt cut it...and i dont know anyone who would want to pay $60 for that equation

i mean its happened so now lets hope that she is ok to still give birth safely without a c-section, plus you may get 5-6 piggies...and seems like you have 3 possible owners with one in question...maybe it wont work out..will you keep breeding again? breeding reduces an animals life expectancy..i hope you deliver a healthy litter but i sincerely hope you leave the breeding to more experienced people

plus this "breeder" thats helping you, isnt she experienced and knowledgeable enough to help you through..just wondering...what advice did she give you?

Keep in mind the original poster wasn't asking for your opinions but since the thread turned into making the person feel bad, it was me that suggested you educate.

Considering the animal is already pregnant it would be more useful to help the person instead of making them feel bad. Education is the key here. Maybe in the future people will think twice about breeding if they're educated about all of the animals in shelters. Education usually works better than trying to make the person feel bad and become defensive.

If you guys would like to start an educational thread about breeding/rescues/ect. I would be more than happy to "sticky" it to the top of the page. I know there is already a thread at the top that has some rescue links in it but we can always add more.
