My piggies are fat!
I feed my pigs unlimited hay with pellets and lots of veggies- I give 1/8cup of pellets per pig per day...but...2 out of 3 pigs are fat...they have double chins! Which worries me terribly. Does anyone know a good sight where I can buy a piggie scale. How could I attempt to diet the two without depriving the third one?

Good luck.I don't have advice, but I need to put my Stuart on a diet.I am researching the best ways to do it.I just lost one to possible heart problems, which may of been caused by being overweight!!!

The advice I have gotten was to keep Stuart on a mostly hay diet with limited pellets and lots of veggies!

Yeah...reading about your poor gp made me think of mine and it was a wake up call to get my two chubby guys into shape..especially my grey one, Ash.
They will be two years old in Feb and it really worries me. I cant put them outside now as it is too hot..but this fall they will be outside when I am gardening and can watch them-if only I didnt have hawks around my area

I grow my own veggies..so they have unlimited hay and veggies like parsley, lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers and such
I cant believe that a diet like this can make you fat..lol

Hahaha...yeah really! If humans eat that kind of diet, they stay skinny or fit.It must be the pellets!!! So I guess the thing is to limit the pellet intake!!
I want to take Stuart outside, but we have been having way too much rain.We got ONE day of sun in more then 2 weeks now and on that day I was out.I would really like him to get some fresh air and mingle in the grass tho.

I am not sure yet.If I do a C&C enclosure for outside,I have to pick up some more cubes...because I don't wanna take his cage apart to bring outside and then have to bring it back in and re-set up! Haha...lazy I know.
But once I figure what I am doing out,I will definatly take pictures!

nice! I do my outside cc with cable ties enough so they can stay together and I can also fold them back on themselves and store them in a bag when I go outside

Guinea pigs do also tend to be on the pudgy side, so it's perfectly possible for a guinea pig to be at a healthy weight and have a bit of a dewlap. They're like rabbits, some are prone to developing them.

Stuart has a dewlap! I took some newer pictures of him tonight...so I will post later and you can also tell me if he is overweight.I know pigs are naturally a li'l pudgy, but because Stuart is also a BIG piggy...I am not sure if he is too fat or just right!

My guinea pigs are chubby but one of them (Kizzy) is far bigger all over than the other, like her dad. She's a big agouti an she lookes like she's got a double chin and everythiing. However, she's got loads of fur and you can feel her body isn't as big as it looks. My other one (Midnight) is smaller like her mum was. Guinea pigs are quite chubby anyway and it's said that they tolerate cold weather much better than hot. Mine are very active when it's cold and lie about doing nothing in the heat. I would suggest taking their minds off food and bringing them in the house to watch telly on your lap. Mine are extra tame and just love that.
