Stop The Diarrhea!!!!

Okay, folks -- it's Olivia again.

I'm feeding her CC & oats, water and IV fluids. Unfortunately, what comes out of her butt is the same consistency as what goes in her mouth.

I need to stop this diarrhea ASAP today as she will be going under anesthesia in the morning. She has also lost that precious ounce she gained 2 days ago...

Does anyone have any ideas? Any "people" food I can give her to firm it up? How 'bout mixing pulverized hay in her CC? Anything??

When my chins get the runs they get burnt toast (charcoal is good for they system so it has to be burnt black), shredded wheat, and extra hay.Maybe you could try to slip some crunched up shredded wheat in her food, or scrape the black off of a burnt peice of toast and put that in? I wish I could help more :-/

Boomer had diarrhea when he was on Baytryl. I gave him some banana to help firm things up and it worked.Give it a try. Good luck!

Oatmeal and also canned, plain pumpkin are supposed to help.

Rice Water

There is a recipe on another forum, I'll get it and PM you with it. I know others have used it with success.

Poor Olivia

Aw, poor girl. I use banana and plain oatmeal oats.

The rice water sounds interesting, Calypso. Is it difficult to make?

Leinani, no, it sounds pretty easy... just time consuming. Fortunately I've never had to try it, it's just one of those pieces of info I filed away for "just in case".

I hope it's OK to post the "recipe" here considering it's from another poster on another board, but I know she wouldn't mind:

Quote:
Take about 1/2 cup rice and 2 cups of water. Boil the rice and boil the rice and boil the rice until what you have is a gooey water in there. If you need to add more water as it cooks, do it. What you want is that gooey rice water that is now filled with gluten. Cool it to room temp and give your pig about 5 cc of it by syringe.

Be careful when feeding with a syringe. You don't want to force it down or push it too fast. She will aspirate it and then get pneumonia from it. You need to push these fluids about every 30 minutes!

I'm going to try that tonight for sure! She had her tooth planing earlier today, so I've been letting her rest and recooperate in peace.
