The green-chinned monster!!
I snapped some pigtures of little Miss Olivia trying her best to eat. She noses around in her pellet dish and pulls out the little yellow flavored things, soaks them in her mouth and spits them out 'cause she just can't chew them right now. But at least she still shows interest in food and her eyes are still bright and shiney.

Since she has had the slobbers for several days, she is constantly soaking wet, all the way to her tummy. I noticed yesterday that the fur has turned green -- is this mold/fungus growing???

I dry her off several times a day, to no avail. I think the best thing I can do for her right now is to clean her off with a baby wipe and just keep her comfortable until she gets to Russ Monday morning for another planing.

Not corn, some kind of flavor pellet. It's got the same nutritional value as the regular pellets but has an added flavor that they just love!! They are few and far between -- just scattered here and there.

What brand is the pellets?
I'm not sure if you are aware but those colored bits are not good for cavies. It just contributes extra sugar and calories that they really don't need. Some of those bits are even a choking hazard. Just thought I would pass this along in the event that you didn't know.

No, it's not that kind of pellet. I would never give them those fruit flavored bits. It's a Timothy based GP pellet with added vita C which has probably evaporated before it even hits their bowl.
The name of the food is Nutriphase and they've been on it all their lives. I tried giving them Oxbow pellets but they would have nothing to do with it!! They just turned up their little noses and refused to eat pellets for the day or two that I had them in their cage. That'll teach me to switch their pellets, huh?

Oh poor Olivia, that's so sad she has that problem. I really hope she gets better soon for you.
Maybe your vet can shave that wet fur off, that's going to end up causing her more problems like red sore skin. Too bad she can't wear a drool bib, is that possible I wonder.
If that green discoloered hair is not from her pellets mixed with her saliva, than it must be like mold growing, but it's not the same as the fungus (ringworm)my pigs have so don't worry about that.
The only reason I know this is because I was a dog groomer and have seen many slobbery dogs with green fur from being wet all the time.

I just read your other thread about what your husband said. He is right , but if the fur is wet right down to the skin it won't help protect. But if it was cut off so air can get at it, and would make it stay dryer, than that would help. If she's really wet with or with out the fur the skin will suffer any way.
You'll think I'm crazy but if you could put a diaper rash ointment on the skin after it was totally dry that would really help- but of course I don't know if it's safe for guinea pigs because they have to lick every thing off them.
I guess you'll have to ask you vet whats best if her skin gets sore.
Hopefully she'll stop slobbering soon.
or maybe LilyGrace can make you a mini size bib,lol (only kidding)

I know what you mean about the Oxbow pellets. I tried to switch over to the alfalfa based pellets and they would have nothing to do with it! My oldest girl went anorexic on me and lost a bunch of weight so I gave up and retired the Oxbow pellets.
Also, Spottypoo, have you asked your vet about the green strip? If not then maybe you should post on GL and ask about that. There is bound to be someone who has experienced this before. If not someone may have an idea of how to fix it.
