The hay is driving me nuts!
I have a huge garbage bag of hay for my piggy.Anytime I bring her some,it gets all over the floor.
Anyway no matter how much I sweep up,there are always hay strands EVERYWHERE! It is worse then aspen! Is there anyway I can have it cleaned up and minimize it going everywhere and sticking to things????
It really is driving me nuts!

lol...you'll get use to it after awhile Just be thankful that you're not allergic to it (if you arn't?) because then it really sucks.
Sorry I don't have any good advice, but it seems like no matter what I do, hay gets everywhere. You can try holding the bag over the cage when you give her some, so most of the hay falls into the cage and not the floor, but even then it seems to find its way onto the floor, maybe less though. If you find anything that works, make sure to post it!

...ahhh, yes such is the life being owed by a piggie! Its just one of the...perks. Haha!
I agree with what Michelle said...all you can really do is keep the bag close to the cage when your giving piggie hay.
I keep the hay in a big rubbermaid container by Harriettes cage and grab a bunch and just put it into her haybox quickly. Keeping the container close minimizes the mess but doesnt prevent stay hays. It just comes with the territory.
What are you using as a haybox, rack etc in the cage? I use an empty shoebox or tissue box and fill it with hay.
Did you take a look at the other threads that deal with this subject? Look at the box that says Similar Threads at the bottom of this page. Maybe you can find something to help.
But like I said....thats the life when your owned by a piggie

Thanks.I figured there is not alot I can do anyway...something like little stray aspens everywhere!
I use this thing I found in the dollar store for a hay rack.It is a kind of hangy shelf thing that you can use for spices or whatever in the kitchen, but it works well as a hay rack! I don't know how to explain it.
I am blonde...haha! I never even thought of storing the hay in a bin! Thats what I use to store my animal foods in...why didn't think of it for hay?

I have found that an easy way to catch all the hay and wood chips that get strewn everywhere is to cut a garbage bag along two of its seams and lay it down flat under the guineas cage, then after it gets messy you just toss it and its contents in the trash!

Andy my chin eats hay as well and it's messy. the worst part about him is if he doesnt like the hay strand he picks up, he pushes it out of his cage onto the floor
Good luck

we i had my chinchilla, we kept his cage on a little table (so he wouldn't get a chill off the ground) and there where little shelves under the table. on one shelf, we kept a Tupperware container with his hay in it. since it was right next to the cage, there was almost no mess... except when he'd get overly excited for the hay and hump your hand... then there was hay everywhere.
So ya, maybe you should try small amounts in a container, and when that gets empty, fill it up (while outside)

I always make a mess with hay. I have it in an old dog food bin that had a horrible seal so I stopped using it for food - but it's perfect for hay - especially since I broke the latch too!
I have a small shop vac to clean up the hay. Then I run my Oreck over it to get up the fur and the bits of hay that are left. I have to do that everyday if I want it clean. I don't always want it clean. I do have 3 rooms with rabbits so that is a lot of messes to clean up.

What we do is: Is outside, we fill a rubber box that will fit into the cage, when the box is in the cage we take what we need out and remove the container...We may spill a bit on the floor but most of it that we spilled is outside when we filled the box..

Yes, make sure any bins you've got have a LOT of ventilation, as hay molds very easily, and it can make your piggies VERY ill!

Thats such a cute picture of Pooters and the piggies.
