That's so sad. How serious is the reaction? What if you just kept the rattie in your room? I'm sorry things are not working out.

Its a pretty bad reaction... like his entire arm and hand were all bubbly and stuff.... And Im not allowed to keep it just in my room because he goes in there all the time and my mom thinks it would be safer to not have it around anymore
Ive asked like 50 people so far and NO ONE wants him. I dont want to give him to a shelter because I dont know then if hes going to a good home or not.

What if he just doesnt touch him? If hes breaking out in hives, benedryl capsules should take them away. I would think as long as there is no asthma type allergic reaction it should be okay.

im sorry you have to find a home for your scabbers. But i grew up with alot of different allergies, so i have to sympathize a bit with your mom, im not sure how old your brother is, but if his reaction was that bad from just touching it, its not a good idea to have in the house. as he could get the same reaction from you touching him after handling the rat or even touching something that the rat was on. Im sorry your rattie has to go maybe in a few years when you move out on your own you can have another one. while your trying to find a home, be sure to wash your hands after handleing him (you should anyway) and dont take him out of your room. maybe after your brothers allergy calms down a bit your mom will be more willing to give you time to find him a good home.

My brother wasnt around it much longer than 2 minutes (it was as soon as I saw the hives that I put the rat back in his cage and ran downstairs so my mom could take care of my brother).
My brother is only 12 years old, and he already did have another reaction from a piece of clothing that I was wearing when handling and put in the laundry bin (and he touched it by accident).
Ive tried talking my mom into letting me keep him but she said my brother had too big of a reaction and she doesnt want to find out if it could be worse (since he was only around it for a short period of time)

I am so sorry you have to find a new home for your rat.It is hard,I know.
My sister,Sandra is also allergic to rats and mice and breaks out in hives if she touches them. But when I was still living home,I could still keep my pets, she just couldn't touch them or the cages...or she broke out.And even now,I sometimes go over with a rat for a visit and she is fine, unless she touches the rat (which she don't do).
I am truly sorry that your mom won't see that there are other options.
