Another excited mom-to-be!!
Hey guys... well, I have fallen completely in love with how sweet rats are. And after Sienna died the other day, I decided that I would go through a breeder to get a healthy rat. I did some googling and found what looks to be a decent breeder. She just had a litter and has accepted my application for two females out of the litter. She said that the dad is a normal eared rat, and the mom is a dumbo eared rat. Have you heard that the dumbo ear rats are more docile and friendly? Anyways, I'm excited and just wanted to share the good news.

Thanks, Caz! I hope that I do end up with the dumbo ear females. But since I'm almost the last to pick, I guess I'll just have to see what happens. If I don't like the temperament of what I have to choose from, can I opt to wait for another litter?

I would imagine so. all rats are friendly and normally have great temperaments but i personally adore dumbo's! I have 2 normal fancy rats and they have wonderful temperaments too so dont be put off if you cant get a dumbo there is always time later on! You will def want more than just 2 rats anyway lol x

I agree, I have had my rats for a month now and I decided to get dumbos, they have been little sweeties, but can tend to get on the shy side occationally. When I first got my rats home I thought they had diarrhia, so I told the shop I got them from and one of the members of staff has 18 rats and he said that dumbo droppings seem to be a little different to other rats? I don't no if thats true, but I thought you'd need to know.

I have two standards and two dumbos and no,their droppings are not different. They are still fancy rats. The dumbo is just a variety of rat, something like German Shepherds are a breed of dog.
I have owned/raised several standards and dumbos and while all rats can be sweet, some of my sweetest have been dumbos.I absolutly LOVE the dumbo rat and it is my favorite variety.
My two dumbos now Ninja and Frosty are very cuddly ratties.Frosty especially loves sitting in my lap, while Ninja loves to be in my arms and grooms me.
Whether you get a standard or dumbo, you will still be brought joy! Rats are greyt!!
