Anyone Know

I want to get a new cage for my boy and girl ratties. So I have been looking around alot! I wanted to know if anyone has used a ten gallon with a cage topper that has three solid levels? If so did it work well. Also do you guys think that that'd be enough space? All together with the cage topper and ten gallon it'll be four full levels.

I wouldn't recomend using a tank/cage topper for rats. Especially a 10 gallon, it's just too small of a base. To figure out how many rats will fit in your cage, go here: http://www.rattycorner.com/odds/calc.shtml

I would strongly recomend martins cages for your rats, I know many people who use them, including me, and are very happy. http://www.martinscages.com/
(I use the rat tower R-690 for my two rats. It holds up to three comfortably.)
Also - what ever cage you end up getting, it must have powder coated wires or the rat urine will seep through the metal and rust and hold oders very strongly.

Hope that helps!

-Sarah

We urge them to move again. They react on the spot, hooves flying with delight.

Hmm. I have looked at martin's cages I'd love to use them but I am having to use less floor space right now because we are aabout to have to put in a new window in our room along with other stuff and the ratties and mice will have to go into other rooms of the house. My boyfriends mom doesn't want them taking up all of the floor space in the other rooms. (shes not very fond of the pets rodents idea but understands that we love them) So since we were looking into new cages already we decided to try and go with a cage topper. I think it should be ok beacuse buddy is in a cage that is a little wider than a ten gallon the roof goes higher up, so if I add a few more levels it should be ok for him and a friend. The topper has solid levels that are almost as large as the bottom of the ten gallon with the exception of the stair space. Lisa you got any input for me?
