barbering old rat

slippery, my oldest rat (i would say he is almost 3) is barbering himself on his front and back legs. i know that this could be because he is bored but i get them out everyday, he has a ton of toys (which he has never played with) . and of course he has a ratty friend. i am not sure what to do for him being so bored... they have hammock in there and tunnels and everything. GRRR i wish he would play instead of tearing off his fur. i know he doesnt have mites, and a am possitive that its not stress related (do they barber because of stress sometimes) they live in a very calm invironment. i go away for the weekend about onced a month... thats when i notice that he has done it alot. maybe he does it when he misses me?
