baytril and runny poos
one of my rat is having runny poos since about the 3rd day of baytril. i reduced his dose alittle thinking maybe i am giving him too much. i read that sometimes antibiotics CAN cause runny poos. any ideas to help him get over it?

Any antibiotics can cause GI upset. Opposite the dose of Baytril, give some probiotics (i.e. acidophilus, available in capsule form at most drugstores). So if you're giving Baytril at 12 and 12, give the probiotic at 6 and 6.

There really is no way to overdose. In the pet medicine section of the pet stores, you can usually get BeneBac. It's probably the easiest to give to them.

When I was working at Petco, we always put Benebac in the food so that the new animals wouldn't get upset tummies from the stress of traveling to our store.
I've had good luck giving cabbage to small animals with runny poos, as well.

I've heard of a lot of animals having problems with Baytril... Maybe try another antibiotic?

Thanks for letting me know about the cabbage! I didn't know that. One of the other people there told me to give it to them, so I did. I figured it was helping to make them better. I guess it was just the benebac.

You can also use live cultered yogurt as a probiotic. But in small doses and only when needed. They love it, but too much is bad for them.
