can rats have acorns?

so there's this tree on my neighbours front lawn, an elm i think, and it's shedding acorns. so can rats have them straight from the tree....or do i have to cook them or something?

I would boil them or freeze them,so any little parasites are killed.I have never given my rats acorns,but then again acorn trees are not too common around here.

cooking is a good suggestion, however freezing will do nothing, it simply slows bacterial growth

acorns almost always have a few worms in them... if you break them open you can find them i'd worry about giving them to my ratties... i almost did but decided to dicect them first and found worms in all of the ones i looked in so i desided not to feed them to my rattiepatties
