carpet floors
When I wash the carpeting in my cage in the washing machine, what kind of soap is safe for rats?

i dont have rats but i would think just normal laundry detergent would be ok, as long as there not eating it or something. Have you washed it before? you might put it on an extra rinse cycle to make sure most of the soap gets out. and try not to use any fabric softener or anything.

You can use regular laundry detergent.I prefer to use the mild, baby detergent...but have used regular before.

I use neutral detergent (no perfumes, etc) because one of my rats is allergic to regular detergent. Good luck!

i think any detergent would be fine as long as it was rinsed well and no residue was left over...you could double rinse in the washer

Thank you, I've never washed it before, but I think I'll give regular soap a try and put it on a double rinse.

I would use non-scented soap and NO fabric softeners. Also, I like to wash my rattie laundery with vinegar to get out all the extra smell. And yes, extra rinse is a good idea.

I washed my carpet and lint and peices of carpet got everywhere in the washer and dryer, next time I think I'll just get new carpet. I think that happened because I put it on regular instead of gentle cycle and used hot water.
