chattering teeth and questions..

I am holding Dash and Beanie and Dash was chattering his teeth and Beanie was sniffing everywhere..first time holding Beanie but 100th time I have held Dash lol. I have played with them in the bath tub 3 times now and they love it. Are these good signs? How do I "become friends" with my rats? I want to be able to cuddle with them and stuff and Im just scared they will get loose or jump off me.

they wont jump off you, they know its far to land. its best to sit on a bed or something with them. i use my couch. the chattering is called bruxing, its a happy sound, so you're doing well!

The fastest way to a rats heart is through its stomach. Every time you pick them up give them a goodie. I use a keyword every time I give my rats treats, so now when I say "Wanna nomnom?" they get excited. They also know the difference between 'nomnom' and 'yogies' (yogurt rat treat). Generally the rule is if it's good for you, it's good for them.

Here's a list of "forbidden foods":

Try holding Beanie more often. He won't bite =). If you wait til later to tame him down it'll be much harder, so try to work with him now while he's young. He'll come around soon enough.

I gave Dash a tad bit of chicken mom broiled me and OMG he freaked! He thought I had some and he jumped around on me and scared me half to death LOL. But I will start giving them stuff while I take them out. And the "want a numnum?" is a good idea!

I picked Dash up and said "want a numnum? want a numnum Dash?" and then I did it with Beanie but instead of saying Dash I said Beanie lol and he started bruxing a little bit.

It sounds like you're doing a great job with them. Definitely try to take them both out every day and they will become comfortable with you very quickly since they are young. It's good to teach them a word for treats, it's so cute to see them get excited when you say it! I always say "yumyum", so I think it's funny that you guys are saying "nomnom" and "numnum". Hahaha.

nice piccies, they look very happy in their new home together! Yeah, the chattering of their teeth is a good thing, called bruxing, I best describe it as their way of purring- apart from it's very different from the noise they make.
