father aggression

The father of my 15 rats attacked one of his kids that was about a month and a half old. they had been in the tank together for about a week then my girlfriend had him out with one of the boys for a couple of hours and when she put them back in the tank the father suddenly attacked him. We think he was going to kill him. does anyone know what would cause this.

It is possible,he smelled other male rats on the son.Has he shown any aggression since?

perhaps your tanks is much too small- and brings out the aggression, i have male mice that would severly injure each other unless i put them in an area that allowed for them to have their own space.
