Fire/Smoke
Well we have a fire nearby (no shock there). There are 1100 fires in california and it seems like all the smoke is coming here. I know smoke is bad for anyone but I know it might be extra bad for rats.
I cant really do anything, all our windows are open to keep it cool. Is there anything I can do to maybe reduce the amount of smoke they take in? Thanks

We urge them to move again. They react on the spot, hooves flying with delight.

The fires are horrid, here in the valley all the smoke has settled, so hard to breath...
Do you not have an ac or anything? The health officials say to try to keep all doors and windows shut and avoid going outside if you can...I hope that your rats will be ok...I can't open our windows because I can't breath

Put a box fan in your window but face it the other way so it blows the smoke out.

I had another idea...
Maybe you could cover the cage with an old blanket or towel, then take and put in a frozen water bottle that is wrapped in fleece or a towel so they can keep cool. Also if you have a big enough bathroom you could put it in there, or put it in an area that isn't directly in the smoke (like a hallway)

The smoke here is so bad I can barely see 200 ft in front of me! It's getting better now though. I heard not to open windows at all and only use the AC.

I agree with the others...if it can be avoided, keep the windows closed.Try an AC! I wonder if an air purifier would help too???

Oh thanks guys but we dont have an ac. You see, to the people who live in ca we live in big bear where the temps dont get high enough to need an ac. The smoke has cleared out today luckily though. Thanks!

I just saw this, but if you could/could've put a bowl of water about their cage to help keep the air moist and make it easier for them to breath
