AN ODD TURN OF EVENTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
--------------------------------------------------
Today was...eventful...in a very odd "she fell out of the sky" way!
i wont be adopting Chip& Conner anymore because of today...and It makes me feel guilty, but at the same time...Im sure they will find loveing homes and I know they are in good hands.
STORY TIME IS NOWZ. SITZ DOWNZ. >:3
About a year ago we adopted Saddie at Petco that celebrates Boxer Sunday.
All of the valleys boxers come out the first Sunday of every month and meet and greet the newest rescues from Az Boxer Tails Rescue.
We brought our 4 boxers in this time.
Well were talking to Saddies foster Mum and foster Aunt and doing catch up when she heard about Bishop the rat. She was utterly fascinated since she has never had rats, so we kept talking. One of the workers at this particular Petco overheard us. His name is Anthony, he was just hired and is still going through training seminars, but he has a nice head on his shoulders and great heart. He looked like a stoner to me and just had that kind of voice, but after talking to him and the events that took place...I can say I dont care if he is, hes great person in my book.
I was chattering on about StarsRatRescue and ended up almost crying because I know the transportation is unlikely to work out. Anthony came over to us and asked if I could look at the rats they had...I said sure though it was weird to me hed request this. We walked over and he opened two large tanks.
The bottom contained 3 BABY boy rats. Barely 3-4 weeks old.
They are all from the same litter. There was one black Irish dumbo, one black/white hood normal, and one self black normal. They were cute but it took us 20 minutes to catch just one! Very unsocial and you can bet the most interaction they get is between putting food dishes down and cage cleaning. Anthony confessed that he doesnt know where they came from and how Petco got them so young. "I know that they're unsociable and their going to turn like him if they stay much longer.", he said as he pointed to top tank. I saw no "him" or whatever he was speaking of.
After about 20 minutes more of Anthony standing on a step stool and a series of odd noises he pulled out a beautiful champagne hooded boy.
Im thinking 3 months or less of age, im no expert! This boy was very scared. TERRIFIED. He began to squeak and play dead in Anthonys hands. After about 30 seconds he gave way to fear and defecated on himself, getting his feet and tail soiled with diarrhea. Despite his fear of the unknown he never once tried to bite. He was entirely too submissive. We put him back VERY quickly. His squeaks of terror were so pathetic and sad I dont think either of us could bear it.
After we closed the tanks...I pretty much knew what was going to happen and it did, very quickly too. Anthony pulled the baby dumbo out and the older male out of the two tanks and put them in little Petco carry homes. We replaced the older males twice, he pooed and peed a lot out of fear. :C
He chose the dumbo because he shows kindness and love to any creature he sees. Hes a loving boy, I didn't know it myself but I trusted Anthony. He sees them everyday and cares for them. Anthony went over to counter and before I could pull out my wallet he swiped HIS credit card! HE PAYED FOR THEM HIMSELF. I mean, it was only $18.12 total, BUT OMG. Why cant every store have one of him? Silly stoner kids with a big hearts all around~!
I went home today with two very wonderful kids. Both look 100% healthy and are in a bin cage quarantine together in the bathroom. I dont know about you but the bin i made this cage out of very cheap. Im tossing it if and when everything works out. About 2-3 hrs ago when I placed the two in the bin the baby dumbo began to clean and take care of the larger male. Of course, the scared kitty ran and hid from the babe. I think this pair will work out great; the motherly and the meek. As far as medications go and so forth they are getting Albendazole for de-worming purposes in adjusted doses and Benebac to help with stool. Both of them became very stressed in the car ride home and had a bit of red rust on their nostrils. However I see no signs of URI or that sort.
Ive got tell you, compared to Bishop these rats look like kittens. No offense to my kid, but ive never handled healthy rats before and its really nice to see that these guys were well taken care of. Plus, their fur is sooooo soft and silky. ;-----; It's going to be a bumpy road for the champagne male to be trusting but i can already tell hes a lap rat and a snuggle bunny. I was gently petting him in the car on the way home, after about 7 squeeks he started to tilt his head toward my finger and begin to enoy it. IM SO HAPPY. AHHH.
Wait here while get teh photos!
