Getting large litters

Well I found the secret to having large litters in bot rats and mice. I find out that if I feed veges and rotate with hard food seems to be doing the trick, this is just my theory, but it works for me. Just a thought. Plan old dog food all the time doesn't get these results as Ihgave experimented with it.

oh okay, thats a little better. but why do you breed for petstores? most of them will go for snake food, no frozen of course, which is dangerous for the reptiles.

Can i/anyone control where the litters go? If you don't want your babies to go for food, then don't breed. You take your chances and live with it. Why does one breed? Pets? Ppl lie about wanting a pet, what do you do, contract them? >>Pet stores? Search their homes? there is no gurantee in life. I live in a small town and ppl want pets and feeders, I can't stop feeders from happening. We have to make a living somewhere. I make my choices and all the protesting in the world won't stop it. Otherwise I would be helping the dolphins to each their own.

Yes, you CAN find them all pet homes. I have been breeding for 5 plus years now and all of my babies are sold on contract. You can see here: www.RompingRattiesRattery.com Please, if you are dead set on breeding for petstores can you at least make sure they live a decent quality life before they get shipped off? They need a well rounded diet and what you are feeding them is not that. I have a feeding article on my website which you can look at.

They can sign but you can't trace them or call them or ask them to show you the pet to insure its safety, it reality for crying out loud. Sad to some that it goes that way. But I don't hold responsibility after they are gone. Thats the pet stores problem. Anyway end of disscusion. Im set in my ways and beliefs. Sorry if i offend anyone.

I make sure I talk to the people for a few weeks or more before they adopt one of my kiddos. They provide their phone number, address, driver license number and a home check prior to adoption. I also make sure they show me their cage as well. I have never had a problem in the five years I've been breeding, and I always keep in touch with each of my adopters. People who come to me are looking for great pets, they are socialized etc. and love showing them off once they are home. I recieve a lot of photos from my adoptees. It is not the pet stores problem. It is your responsibility to make sure that those rats find suitable homes with a loving family. If you do not care, that is one thing, as there are many feeder breeders out there who could give a rats butt what happens to their babies.

You are adding to the problem. Why breed rats to sell to pet stores, why try to get "the biggest litters possible" its not like selling rats to pet stores could make you any money, your probably losing money if you feed your rats even half decent food. I think its a shame that you do this, and to top it all off, your breeder rats are kept in 10 gallon tanks with no wheels, hidey houses or anything, and they live in a shed. I think that you are deliberatly trying to upset me and the rest of the folks on this forum who really care about their pets. If you cared at all about your rats or about animals in general you wouldnt breed them to sell to pet stores, why not just keep a couple of same sex pairs as pets? Rats arent just snake food, they are lives and they have souls, and here you are just cranking them out and giving them to certain painful death.
