Hairless rats? - Paw Talk

I was at a local flea market yesterday and in the pet store they had rats that didn't have hair. Well they may have had some peach fuzz but that was all. Is there something such as a hairless rat or was there something wrong with them? They were pretty cute - all naked looking. They also had hamsters for 1.00! One of them had at least 2 babies - now they were really cute.

Yes, there are hairless rats. I had a hairless rescue but he's left us now. There are hairless (truly hairless), double rex, double velveteen- some have hair patches on the face and genitals, some grow patches and lose them and grow them... Thanks for letting me know. I really was not too sure with that place. Like I said they were cute they just looked naked!

someone on a differnt pet bourd i chat on has 2 hairless rats they are very cute.

I have a hairless rattie named Pelle, aka The Pig. I ADORE him! He's so warm and soft! I got him last October. I have 9 ratties, he is my only hairless.

I had 2 hairless mice. My ex's mom got them from a medical testing lab (she tested certain kinds of cancers) They were both female, had immune deficiencies, and were sterile. She told me that they were basically genetically engineered to be that way. They weren't like hairless fancy mice, they were lab mice. They both didn't live long but she told me that was to be expected.

I wish I had a pics because they looked like little aliens to me...lol...they didn't look like hairless mice I have seen since. They didn't have ANY hair. I know fancy hairless mice can have some strands of hair, these were completely bald.

I adore hairless rats and would like one soon.They are soooo cute!

I knew their was hairless mice too,but I had no clue there were hairless hamsters!

Surely you have all seen my Gillette somewhere on the internet-

An this was our rescue Voodoo- he was a sweety, but they just weren't well and didn't live very long.

i think there kinda creepy looking.. but i think the same about the hairless cats too

never seen one in person tho.

I saw some nekkie ratties at the pet store today, and had to constrain myself! I just have a "thing" for them. I find them quite lovely and interesting. Three years ago, I had no clue about them. But when I learned more about them, I HAD to have one, and now I ALWAYS want to have at least one of them in my mischief.

i have had hairless hamsters, mice and rats.
the hairless hamsters look UGLY, **but*** in an adorable way. our hairless hamster was named piglet off of winne the poo. it fit him very well.
did you know there is hairless guine(sp) pigs too?

Yep,I knew there were hairless guinea pigs,known as "skinny pigs".One of the pet stores here sell them and they are super cute!

Yes, VooDoo was a rat. We took in him and his cagemate Taboo (I can't remember what their names were before we changed them). They were pretty malnourished and very skittish. They gained weight, but never really got comfortale being handled. I thought that Taboo had killed Voodoo, but Taboo died 4 days after, so not really sure. They were only about 1 1/2 when they died. I think Taboo was a few weeks older.
