Hey,
I have a silly question
(hope it wasn't answered before)

I read that you shouldn't get a single rat, always at least two of them.

Having birds I know that the more birds you have the harder it is to tame them, even with just two it's really hard.

Is that the same with rats?

I will get more than one anyway, I'm just curious...

Thanks for your answers!

Hello there!

I don't think it's harder with more than one. In fact, they seem to 'egg each other on'. Food is always the best way to a ratties' stomach! They love their grub.

When I have my 6 out, they fight over being on my knee! They're all affectionate and love being with me/on me. I even had 4 nervous rescue rats at once at one point, but I didn't really find it too hard to bring them round and now they're lovely girlies. Bess has since died, sadly, but her 3 sisters are fiesty little ladies who love life.

I have one rat for now. He's getting a cagemate after a few weeks so I know that he's not sick.
He's a curious one. It's hard to keep him still. When I have him on the couch, I bring out his house, which is really just a bent piece of cardboard with a towel rapped around it. He sleeps in that while I watch TV or do whatever.

usually, a lone rat is a scared one, and actually harder to convince that you are ok and won't harm her. I don't have any experience with rats, but from what I've learned with mice and gerbils, they are a lot more friendly when they have a partner. They seem to feel safe when they have another one like them with them, and kinda like learn to be friendly from the other.

Padfoot is right. My female mice are very friendly, even the mama is coming around and I didn't think she ever would. I think it's because it's lke a monkey see monkey do kinda thing. They see the other mouse go into your hand, so they have too.

Rats love company and actually do so much better with it.Of course they enjoy human company, but they are social animals that enjoy the company of other ratties...

And yeah, it will be quite easy to tame more then one rat at a time...I have done it.Rats like to copy eachother...
