Petsmart is not a good petstore. They may seem like they care, but they don't. I quit because we had a sick Cockatiel that needed to goto the vet. When I told the Store Manager, he said that it would cost more than the bird was worth, that we could just get the money back from the vendor if it died.
Well, I immediatly contacted the District Manager, he said he would talk to my Store Manager but guess what. Nothing happend and the bird died.
Petsmart also gives horrible information about the care of animals. I was reprimanded for telling people to adopt rather than buy, and to build larger cages rather than buy their crappy ones.
Petsmart is about money, just like every other petstore. Don't be fooled that they care about more than that. Some employees do care, don't get me wrong, but they can only do what the managers allow.
Also, Petsmart gets their pets from breeder mills. That is the same thing as puppy and kitten mills, just small animals, birds, reptiles, etc. How many dead animals do you think we had in one day?
If you buy from petstores, buy from ones that don't sell ANY animals.

Wow, kinda suspected that, but to HEAR it from someone who worked there surprises me. Also, absolutely EVERY petstore within hours to me now sells pets....though I stand by what I say about Pet Value. Apart from the shavings, they really seem to have it together. They've only just starting selling small pets, and they usually don't have many in their stores. Apart from the pricing, they're my favorite.

yes, that's exactly what I meant. The ONLY petstores in my area (within HOURS distance) that separate males from females for any rodents are Petsmart and Pet Value. They're also the only petstores that buy from breeders. All the others just let their animals interbreed with each other, which is how they keep them in stock. If no-one buys them, they'll just overcrowd the cages/tanks they're in.

Just to let you know...pet stores don't buy from breeders. They buy from breeder mills. These places do alot of inbreeding and are only in it for the buisness. They ship out tons of small animals,birds,fish...etc to pet stores all over the place.I know this, because I know some people who work in pet stores or used to work in them.
