Unhappy

Help Injured mouse!!!!!!

I was feeding my 4 female mice this morning and i noticed that one of them (gracie) had injured her ear , it looked like the top part of the ear had a bit of crusty blood, when i took her out under her ear looked like a bit of dried blood and some yellowish stuff, (i assume puss ) I tried to clean it a bit but she would not sit still, i put a bit of nesporin(sp?) on it. I am wondering if anyone has any suggestions on what i can do? And should i remove her from her cage mates, they don't normally fight, but htis makes me wonder. She is still eating and drinking(and pooping) but i am worried about her any suggestions?

Lightbulb

Drip some hydrogen peroxide in there to be sure it gets in deep.
Just a drop or two.

If a gerbil, I would give them a litle ornacycline (which I get in the bird section), but I don't know about mice. (?).

I don't think they'd fight.

Hope someone can tell you more. Good luck.

I don't think they would have been fighting maybe play fighting thats got a bit rough but thats all i should imagine especially if you have not noticed anything before. Anything could have caused her to injure her ear she could have caught it on something or had an irritation. I'd leave her with her friends if they aren't fighting as if you remove her it will stress her out and if shes acting normally i'd leave her where she is for now and keep a very close eye on her. As for the ear i always swear by tepid water for cuts and grazes, i'd bathe it once or twice a day and make sure it stays clean and hopefully it should heal up in no time. But at the first sign of infection i'd seek veterinary attention as its always better to be safe than sorry where any small creature is concerned and if it gives you peace of mind its most definately worth it!

Goodluck with her and please keep us posted

I have three female mice who have lived together fine for over a year, and about a month or so ago, Keona got her butt kicked... It's still not healed, but she bites me hard everytime I try to do something with it... I'm beginning to think it'll be more humane to euthanize her...

Dill is a gerbil. He lived in a big tank with his two brothers, Tommy and Phil, and uncle, Cliffy. They got along fine, until Tommy, the smart one (dominant?) died an aparently natural death. Next thing Dill and Phil fought a vicious fight: Dill was mangled all over his side near his face, and Phil got a few bites on his belly - he didn't make it. But Dill recovered fully and is lving peacefully with Cliffy. I never thought he'd make it. I posted the photos long ago (Search the gerbil section if interested).

So, you never can tell about fighting and injuries.

Best wishes.

Thanks for the advice , i have been putting polysporin on the cut (with great difficulty) everyday and it is looking a little bit better, it is still a bit oozy. I decided not to take her to the vet as many vets around here do not deal with small animals like mice very often and would probably tell me to the same thing ( but it would cost more $$), She is still eating and drinking and running so my hopes are high that she will recover!

When my hamster Samwise had his wound from surgery, I distracted him by giving him a big treat log to gnaw on while I medicated his owie. I'm sure Gracie will be fine. The polysporin makes the wound heal fast.
