I'll share about the 5 rats i had, although i don't have them anymore
Francis: she looked like a francis- and kind of for a book i was reading (normally called fran or franny)
Spinter: boyfriend at the time named her after the rat in teenage ninja turtles (called splino normally)
rattles: always ran around and made noise
Mogli: the jungle book
isibella: love the name (normally called izzy though)

Figaro: named after Chris's favorite play
Favorite: so named because he was the early favorite of the litter
Clarice: just natural, she's lecter's daughter
Lecter: has dark ruby eyes and looks evil like my favorite book character
Isabella (Izzy): patchy hairlessness makes her look all feminine and lacey so we gave her a feminine lacey name
Gretel: no idea completely pulled out of my butt
Vladimire: husband named him this to be ironic because he's sooo docile
Lucy: can't explain it, she just looks like a Lucy--has somewhat lucille ball like antics too
Cherry: named after her cherry red eyes
Quentin: not a clue, it just occurred to my husband
Agnes and Agatha: I wanted to name them something that made them sound like twins because they are soo close to identical and they are completely inseparable

I used to have a himalayan named Cherry!
I named her because her eyes were so red as well!

I named my first rat, Skrat, from ice age...the character was a prehistoric squirrel
Constantine was named after the movie bc when she was a few days old her hooded fur formed a cross on her back

Pike (it has an accent on the 'e' so pee-kay) - He's such a cutie and I love the name Pike for small animals.
Loki - I got the name from somewhere, a book or a game or something but I can't remember... lol =P
Tornado - Tornado's a bit crazy and when we first got her and my last rat Ratty was preserved and cautious but Tornado was friendly and running round the cage wildly. Tornado suits her
Ratty - My brother named him. Imaginative I know!! lol

Isn't Loki one of the high angels? I think he's God's vengeance with a flaming sword. I'm thinking of the film Dogma with Matt Damon and Ben Affleck where they play Loki and Bartlebee(?). Anyway it's a cool name, sounds nice when you say it aloud.
My rats: Eve because she has no fur and so is sort of naked.
Stan and Winston, not sure why my boyfriend called them that, I like it though.

My newest baby which I got tonight is named Dox.
I basically just shortened "Boondox" (one of my favorite music artists).

Bumping this up!
My newest ratty is named Saffron. Why??? I really don't know.It seemed to stick.I always liked that name for rats, ever since reading about someone's rat in another forum named Saffron. When I was taking Saffron home, that name kept hovering in my mind and it just stuck! So that is why Saffron is named Saffron!

I guess I'll give my first ratties names to my current ones!
Jinx- was my first ratty, my ex and I used to randomly say things at the same time and Jinx kind of just popped up as a name.
Snickers-Jinxys sister, my exs brother bought her as a friend for his rat then he abandoned her
Killer- She was a mother when she was in the pet store, she was just so sweet that the name Killer was nothing like her so it was kinda cute and ironic
Chewy- I thought she was co cute you could eat her!! she was a beige hooded girl who was such a tiny baby
Pickles-I was watching Rugrats at the time lol
Peanut- slept in the shape of a peanut it was cute
Cookie- I dunno, I thought it was a cute name!
Itchy- Used to make Ted itchy
Scratchy-Ted used to scratch when he itched!
Remy- Named for the ratty in Ratatouille
Pongo- Was named after the father Dalmation in 101 Dalmations
Current Rattys
Oreo-He has a little white diamond on his black head, it kinda made him look like and oreo
Cookie-went well with oreo
Budders-after Butters on South Park, also kind of went with the cookie theme, Butter cookie I'm hoping to get another girl I can name Sugar (Cookie)
I should post some pictures of all my current ratties and my past ratties in my album! I miss my old guys

Most of my rats have game based names. Trouble was something we just came up with that quickly came to suit him. Ping and Pong are my boyfriends twin girls. Hearts was named when she was just days old and her heart mark didn't show up till she was older. Snap was named so because the end of her tail was snapped off in an accident before we got her. Jigsaw and Jenga were just game names we came up with. Blue and Whiskers don't have game names, but Blue was named so cause he has blueish fur. And my 3 rats who have passed we're Chess, Checkers and Cadoo.

Newton - Seemed appropriate for a rat. He's a big black lover who likes to explore my room for food.
Darleen - She's ferocious when she has a nest of babies, but sweet and calm when away from them. Darleen seemed like a bit of a snobby name.
Pook - AKA Pook-bear -I thought pook was a boy, and had 'him' housed with Newton when I first got 'him'. I checked 'him' again two days later only to discover it was a GIRL! She was TEENY, probably only 5 weeks old - and sure enough, got preggo from this encounter. She had 9 babies and did just fine. She's the most personable rat, knows her name and if out exploring she often finds me to cuddle for a minute before running off again. She's my favorite.
Ethel - she was standoffish, and I thought Ethel was an old fashioned stuffy name.
Wilbur - He's a black berk dumbo with a cute blaze. He's dopey, cuddly, and reminds me of the pig from charlotte's web - wilbur.
I also have an unnamed Siamese girl who is for my friend but she can't take her till I have a litter grown up for her to choose a friend for her.

my new boys are called Oscar and Ronnie.
Ronnie is what the pet shop called him (he was the pet shop rat)
and i called oscar oscar because my brother wanted to get a budgie and call it oscar. i'm thinking about renaming him charlie after the character in my favourite book, the perks of being a wallflower.

I have some more rats since this thread.
Sage is named because it goes with Saffron and they are mom and daughter.I heard it on some show on TV.I wasn't watching the show, but when I heard a character called Sage I thought, thats a nice name! And so Sage got her name that way.
Blackberry is sadly named after the phone! LOL.I really want a blackberry and when I was playing with him one night,a blackberry commercial came on and well I thought it would be a cute rat name.So thats how he got his name.
Chris is actually named after one of my friends in prison. He was joking about me naming a rat after him and so I did! Hahaha. It kinda don't suit the little rat,but whatever!
Milky came with that name.I like it and it suits her.She has a milky eye (blind).
Cinnamon was actually named Li-Shang when I got her,but that name seems to be a male character in Mulan! She is a she! And I am not big into the Asian culture. One of her daughter's was named Cinnamon and it was a cute name for a siamese rat,so I decided to give her that name.
