Just Wondering....
Hmmm... this may be a completely irrelevant post here, as there's not many people very interested in mouse colors and genetics here... but, hey... I have pics, so I decided to show it anyway... heh...
Anyway... I have been thinking and wondering about my Ralph. He's a mystery color baby I had in a litter between a cinnamon and a dove. He had some siblings that were blue, and some chocolate, so it was entirely possible that he was a lilac, since sometimes he seemed to look more greyish... but sometimes he looked more creamish... which made me wonder if I had a beige or a coffee on my hands. Now, I don't have available the gene needed to get a beige or a coffee... it is however, a recessive gene, so it could have been passed around hidden... but still... it's odd to find a gene that you have NEVER seen anywhere else...
Today, I took Ralph outside to look at him in the sunlight. I took some pics of him too, and he definetely looks like a Coffee... he has a dark, greyish undercoat and a topcoat that is the same color as coffee with milk... Now, after Sugarcube has had her rest from the last litter she had, I want to breed her and Demi (both albinos) to him. If he is indeed a coffee, I should be getting more coffees and some beiges from that litter... and I will be a very very happy breeder... lol... anyway... after all that babbling... here are Ralph's pictures... lol

I don't know anything about mouse coloring but whatever he is he's really cute!!
And I'm curious to see if that is indeed his coloring.

I'll let you know when he has babies... lol. Since I just weaned Sugarcube's babies, I have to give her rest before breeding her again. Meanwhile I put Neela and X with Tigre and Pirata, I'm going for BEW mice with those. Also I'll probably get an almost BEW girl soon (tomorrow). 8)

No, it's not unusual. I have several solids with while tail-tips, mainly blacks, chocolates and blues. My agouti is completely solid, though. I think that the white tail-tips, even though they are considered a fault, are quite cute. 8)

I don't know anything about the genetics, but let us know if you figure out for sure what he is. He's adorable by the way.
I have a chocolate girl with a white tip. Well, it's more like the last inch of her tail than a tip, but you know what I mean. I think it's cute too.

perhaps, there was some codominance involved...if the parents were heterozygous ... and the dominant genes happened to pair up ....however...i doubt that..you'd be getting a probability of a lot more babies that were coffee..and the outcome shows that to be false...hmmm...perhaps a substitution mutation..in one of the gametes....just throwing out some ideas...i am interested to see the outcome and ratio of your next mating of albino and cofee!!
lol

Yeah, he as the only this color in the litter... and the first and only litter of her mom here with me (she had a litter when she was with my friend, but only chocolates and cinnamons).
Here is a picture of the whole litter so you see... it was a very nice, colorful litter... lol... hat the right pairing can make! I love my Monterrey, he has a lot of exciting recessives... lol

I have a BEW that is in labor now. I am experimenting getting more of those to. What I am going to due is take 2 broken mice (black or tan or dove, ect) and breed for the least amount of color and than I will end up with a white mouse whose only pigment is in the eyes. Thats how my BEW now, came to be. Although it may take some time, I am looking forward to it. But I may even get some BEW from this litter so I wount even have to do that!
I also have some simese and himi's, I love them!! To bad you werent closer I would sell you some. Good luck with your breeding, I myself am starting to get into the breeding thing AGAIN.

I recently put together 2 banded females with 2 banded males, in hopes of getting BEW's (double bandeds). I also got a little (almost) BEW from a friend. It has the faintest (almost not visible) beige marks on the back. This one, I'm not sure why is almost BEW... but I think it has to do with the chinchilla gene. If Ralph is indeed a coffee (meaning that he carries the extreme dilution), I might mate him to the new girl (when she's old enough) to see it I can get more BEWs that way too (through the extreme dilution gene). I would also love to mix the gene with the brindles.... Oh, the possibilities, if this guy is indeed what I think he is.
