My Rats - Paw Talk

Hey all! I'd like to introduce my boys to you.

Here is Chad, who was a rescue. He's about 3-4 months old. I believe he is Russian silver, but he could just be blue.

This is Extra, who is also a rescue. He is missing the last inch or two from his tail. We believe his mother/father bit it off, but we can't be sure because the home he came from had no idea how it happened.

He came with his brother, Houston.

And here is his brother, Houston, who is a black berkshire. He isn't missing anything, that we know of.

This is Gigalo, my double rex nakie man. He is from a breeder, the same breeder who also rescues, which is where Houston and Extra are from.

Here is Isaiah. He is a dumbo earred rex husky marked agouti. (Or all of that, in the correct order, LOL). He is from a breeder as well.

This is Luther, a rex black hooded. He's my lovey dove. Also from a breeder.

Sambora, my oldest and largest rat. He is from a petstore, when I was just getting back into rats and before I found my current breeder.

And lastly, here is Talbot aka Wocky. He is a dumbo mismarked blazed black hooded. He is also from a petstore, but is much more recent. He's been here about 3 weeks, and is such a doll.

LOL, yes, that's his favorite pose. He's such an eye boggler, it really is cute.

Oh they are all so cute! I love Talbot -I can see why you brought that silly little face home!
I never knew that rats came in a hairless variety. He looks so...well...naked! Do you have to put lotion on him? I heard that is what you have to do with the Chinese Crested dogs.

Oh and Chad is a lovely color!

I have always been tempted by rats but I am still unsure of them. Maybe it's not the best idea with 2 kitties and 2 dachshunds!

Keritsubo, I will likely have some of Luther's offspring available if you fancy a drive.

They should all be more rex-y than he is, or about the same.

Kathydip, yep, they do come in hairless. Gig is a double rex, which means he is not a "true" hairless. But there are true hairless, which have no fur, as you can imagine. He gets more baths than the other rats, and yes, he also has lotion. He also gets more protein than the other rats as his metabolism is higher.

I'd always wanted a blue berkshire, and I saw this little guy being yelled about at the front of the petstore with a really really really ignorant lady, and with what ensued I knew he'd have to be mine or no one's.

I can see why you would be hesitant to get ratties, but we also have two large dogs and a cat. None of them bother the other animals in the house. Albeit, the cat is so far from a killer or even a hunter we just call him the cat pillow, LOL.

We have four cats, and have had no issues with our rats. Two of our cats ignore them completely, one is afraid of them, lol, and the other would love to make them a snack, so we always make sure he's in a different room or outside when we play with the rats. So you can make it work, you just have to be careful.

I have my bun in the same room with the kitties. They sleep in her enclosure and drink her water. I know it's not the same but someone warned me that cats could hunt rabbits. So maybe they would be accepting. My female dog would most likely be accepting as well if I introduced the rat to her as a "baby" but the other one well he would love to use my bun as a squeak toy! I know it. Of course he is never allowed in her room. I have a baby gate up to keep him out.

Maybe one day....

Hey I never thought I would have a bunny then Tabatha hopped into my life. I will never say never!
