Nail Clipping

How do you know it's time to get your rats nails clipped?

My girls nails aren't long.. just a little bit sharp. And they're suppose to be that way, right?

I'm bringing the bunnies to the vet hopefully on Friday. I could bring the rats with me if they need it.

rather than nail clipping, you can get bird perches for the cage that help file nails, they usually only cost a few bux each. or take a rock and put it in their cage, or take a tube and line it with fine fine sandpaper. it's helped with mine

Ronnie (who now lives with my sister in law) gets really long nails that need to be clipped regularly... its pretty easy, we just use regular human nail clippers, and just do the tips... none of her cagemates ever really need it done, some rats are just different.

I have never had to get any of my rat's nails done! I add rocks to their cage or put rocks/bricks out during free range time and that keeps their nails trimmed.

sometimes they start to curl a bit at the edges. put a brick or something like that underneath their water bottle...it'll sand them down enough to where they won't notice. I would want to put my rats through the experience of clipping their nails.

A brick is a good idea too.

I don't know where I would get one though. I'll ask. I like the bird perch idea too.

Thanks for the help, everybody!
