new rat

My rat scofield has been lonely. He's been nippy, and really doesn't want to do anything at all. I hadn't really planned on getting him a mate, but yesterday I was in the petstore looking at their rats. I've been looking for rats, but I really wanted one that wasn't very standard, like the hooded, and the white ones.
I was looking around, and saw that they had a dumbo!! I got so excited, and even though I know they are pretty common, I've never seen one in person..lol
Well I bought him today and I brought him home. I held him the whole way home and at my boyfriends house. He just sat in my hands and on my shoulder.
I was pretty positive that I couldn't quarantine, so I made an appointment with the vet anyway. I feel pretty bad about that, but I wasn't sure if scofield would make it another 4 weeks. I thought it was important to get him a friend as soon as possible.
I cleaned out the cage really well, but in the meantime, my boyfriend let them both on the bed. They didn't fight or anything. The little one just chased scofield around and walked all over him, scofield didn't seem to mind.
I put them in the cage without the top and let them sniff around, I then put the cage top on and took them outside with me. My boyfriend decided he was going to add a second level to the cage and build them a house.
I don't have a name for the new rat yet but here is a few pictures.

The last one you can really tell the size difference. Scofield is a really big rat, but he's HUGE compared to the little guy.

We decided to name him Jack. His cage is all set up, he has a loft with a house on it and a big house for the both of them. It's so cute, Jack climbs all over scofield and he doesn't do anything

Thats wonderful how fast Scofeild accepted little Jack...he must of been lonely...

When my rat ~Anabel~ passed on, her sister and cagemate Claribel was left alone.I was so worried that she would pine away and so I gave her extar attention and treats and she eventually became herself.A few months later I brought Sprite home.I thought it would be hard introducing them, as Claribel was alone for a bit...but nope!No problem!!Now Claribel is aging and Sprite who is still young...only about 7 months...will be alone.I am looking into maybe getting her another cagemate, so when Claribel does pass...she won't take it as hard.

All in all I guess it depends on the rats personality...because I also had a couple of rats who did not accept a new cagemate...

CongRATS once again and of course more pictures are always welcome!!

This rat is perfect...LOL...he doesn't pee on me, or on my bed, he only pees in his cage and he only pees in one corner!! So I might see about litter training him. I think it could be because he was in a 20 gallon tank with about 6 different rats, so maybe he decided that he had to pee in the corner to keep his cage clean. He loves to be held, and actually sleeps on my bed with me a lot (I don't sleep at night, so I sleep on and off through the day) He had his own spot under the one pillow.
Unfortunately, scofield loved him too much and I decided to keep him in his own cage for a little while and just let them play together. I"m not home a lot throughout the day so I don't want to take any chances. I know they'll be okay, it's just that scofield is A LOT bigger than him and I want little jack to be safe.

He sleeps in the corner and doesn't move. I have a queen size bed, so I've never worried about it. Yesterday he slept with me, and was all curled up in my comforter (I was using it as a pillow) haha, I had to unroll it to find him...he rolled out then looked up at me with sleepy eyes saying "what did you do that for??"
