i like them all, they are very adorable, i had two rats, whiskers was the older one, she died yesterday, and skittles is the younger one, i think she will be around for awhile more. planning on maybe getting another one, maybe a male, would like to have some offspring of skittles before she passes.

I adore them all. They are starting to wrestle and tumble and chase eachother now and it is one of the cutest things to see!

I particularly like the only blue/white hooded dumbo, he is adorable and I also really like the blue female standard.

I will be sure to post more pics, now that they are up and running about! It is now time to start thinking of names!!

Awwwww...sorry about Whiskers.

How old is Skittles? Do you have any pictures of her? I think you should look into getting a friend for her, but if you do decide to breed...just do research, as it is more work then you might expect!

Speaking of breeding, I have only breed mice and the smallest litter I had was five, while 10 was my highest. Since you have bred rats before, Vanilla_Rat, I was just wondering what was your lowest litter number and are the 16 ratties you have now the highest litter for you? What's the avg norm?

Thanks

Actually this is my first rat litter.Sprite had a large litter for her first.

As for mice, I used to breed them for years and my smallest litter was 5 and my largest mouse litter was 15.The average I had was between 6-9 at a time. Most times the litters were that.

I knew someone who had a rat that only had 2 babies! It was funny, she didn't even know her rat was pregnant, as she never put on weight and then one day there were 2 ratlets in the nest!

I have heard of rat litters being up to 24 a few times!!

I would like to advice you not to. I'm not sure if this happens with rats, as I haven't really researched into breeding rats... but with most rodents (hamsters, gerbils, mice) if they don't breed before the 9-12 months of age, their hip bones fuse in a manner that it doesn't allow the babies to pass through the birth canal. The rodent can't give birth to the babies and a cesaria is needed, or the rodent dies. I advice that you get her a female friend, and if you really want to breed, research the topic, look around for people who would like rats from you and breed a younger female.

Yep, that can happen with rats too.Sprite is only 8 months, and she gave birth at 7 months so I was lucky that she could have a litter before she reached that age. That can be so stressful on them having a risky c-section!
