New Rattie! (Pics Included)
Im rather new to rats, If youve read my other post Im taking care of two fuzzie rats at the moment, but this is my first one who has its eyes open! Im not going to say adult, because she is still rather young, but im not going to say baby because the others are actualy babies. Anyways back to the point! To introduce our new rattie! She doesnt have a name yet, but were working on it, havnt yet found one to suit her personality! She has the cutest biggest and blackest eyes ive ever seen! And her fur is SO soft! Weve only had her for a few days now, but she is SO sweet and loving! Shes still getting used to us and wont take a treat from my fingers yet, but im sure that will change in time. She has one TEENY grey dot on her tummy (will get pictures of it ASAP) which is a lil kissing target. She loves climbing up me and sitting on my shoulder! Well here are a few pictures of her. What color would you call her (im not good with that type of thing) and how old do you think she is? If you could answear either of those questions it would be really helpful .

She likes it in her blankie!

Almost as much as my boyfriends head!

Out of all the hides we BOUGHT for her, her favortie is the one i made outta an old box!
And this is her home!
At the moment shes too little and can if though the bars, so ive fixed it with "Rabbit Wire" so she cant go anywhere! (ive had WAY too many mice escape on me!)
hope you enjoy the photos! Shes my little pride and joy!
Also if anyone has a good name for her id love opinions! Thanks!

CongRATS on the new little girl. The pics are adorable!! The cage looks good as well.Rats do like the simple things, like cardboard boxes and things around your house! And I find they like them more then store bought things!
I agree rats need company, but if the two little ones you have survive and are girls, you can introduce them to her.Rats are super social animals and thrive with other rat companionship.
One more thing, what kind of shavings are you using? To me it looks like pine and pine and cedar are both toxic to small animals and can cause RI's (respitory illnesses).
For variety she is a hooded. As for color,I am not quite sure.It looks like it may be slate blue or American blue.I had a Russian blue rat that was similar to your rat's colorings.

Thanks guys! Yes i am going to be putting the babies in with her (yes they are both girls), when they get bigger, assuming they survive, other wise Im going to be getting another for company for her. I want to make them a cage like "the grotto" from The Grotto but I will need to litter train them first. I was told that only cedar is toxic, but yes im using pine, I will be getting carefresh, but I want to get a big bag and wasnt driving and didnt want to carry the whole thing home (plus i got a big bag of the cedar with the cage) but ill make sure that I get the carefresh ASAP! I figured after that she was a hooded, but im still lost on color. :S

Yep,pine is just as bad as cedar. They contain phenols and those are what is toxic.
I use aspen and Yesterdays News - both are safe and work greyt! I have also tried hemp, which is also safe, but I don't use it much because it is like $6 for a smaller bag then the bag of $6 aspen I get! Carefresh is also safe.I don't use that tho, because awhile back I had a rat that developed an allergy to it,so I just stopped using it all together.
Anyway good luck with all your babies!

She is a beautiful blue color and she is a hooded pattern. She has standard ears. I am not sure how old she would be she looks less than a year tho. GOOD LUCK WITH YOUR NEW RATTIE!

Horses simply love running around. They enjoy flexing their muscles, arching their tails in the air, rising up powerfully on their hind legs, and then thundering off at full speed. In between the gallop strides they buck exuberantly and toss their heads joyfully. After repeating their show a couple of times, they pause for a moment to look around with widely flared nostrils, as if to ask: Has everyone seen us? Aren't we simply fantastic? We urge them to move again. They react on the spot, hooves flying with delight.
