rat food
I give my rat Forti-diet by Kaytee. Is that stuff good for rats? It's the lab blocks.

Is is specified for rats? If not then its probably not good. Also, kaytee has something in it that has been known to cause cancer in rats. I'm not sure if thats just their seed mix, but I would probably be cautious and feed somthing else. I like Reggie Rat or Animal planet because although lab blocks are nutritious, I like my rats to have varitety (not that they don't get lots of healthy treats) If you do want to stick with lab blocks, however, Harlan Teklad are the best quality lab block for rats. They can only be ordered online I belive, but I know a lot of people that have been very happy with them. Hope that helps and be sure to spice up his/her diet with healthy treats like fruits veggies and grains (pasta, cereal, etc.)
PS- do you only have one rat? Rats are very social creatures and yours would be much happier with a quarintiened and well introduced friend.

I had a long reply done about rat diets, but I pressed delete accidentally before copying it!
Anyway I know nothing about that brand of food, but if it contains dried corn it is unsuitable. There are not many decent rat foods in pet stores.Nutriblock or other lab blocks are good,as they contain all the nutrients the rats need.
You can also make your own rat diet, thats what I do and give them Nutriblock,veggies,fruits,pastas...etc on the side.

Kaytees first ingredient is corn but that isnt whats bad...its something with one of the preservatives they use (I think...its something chemical, I know that)
Reggie Rat is okay but it should only be used as the staple if the rats eat ALL of it. If they dont eat the barley or the black long things then its not a complete diet and should be supplemented with something else.
IMO a good choice would be to use lab blocks as a staple...harlan tekland or mazuri (harlen you have to order, mazuri you can get at petsmart but its expensive...I got lucky and found 25 pound bag for $16 at a feed store)....or do as lisa does and make your own diet. Some people use a Suebees but I actually read that its not that healthy, can make the rats overweight, and it really isnt nutritionally complete.....Feeding a mix with lab blocks would probably suffice, and giving them fruits and veggies and pastas as treats and dinner.

Fresh corn is okay on occassion.I give it to mine sometimes.Corn doesn't digest very well,so it should not be an "all the time" thing.

I have a little under half a 2lb bag and I was wondering if it would be safe to buy a bag of Mazuri and mix the two including some seed mix from the petstore. Maybe some pasta. What kind of pasta is good anyway?

Do you think it would be safe to finish the bag? I don't know how dangerous it is. Do you think I could mix it with a bag of Mazuri and some seed from the petstore?
