rat refusing treats?

I was messing around with pepper the other day. I had him on my bed and was waving a bit of red lace around him, eventually I started running it all over him and he began to get a bit annoyed, so I was pulling it towards me and he was chasing it! he will only do this on my bed, but I give him treats for doing it and when he takes them out of my hand he just drops them on the floor? Do you think he is bored of his treats or dosn't like them, he will eat them in his cage. I give them chocolate drops by the way.

dont worry, my boys do that too, it's like they put it down to save it for later. i let my boys out on my bed, and when i try to give them a treat they just put it down. but if i say cage time (time to go back) they grab the treats and get on my shoulders.

I read this book about rats, and it discussed their love of exploration. An experiment was done where rats were not fed for a few days, then they were put into a new environment with a large amount of food in the middle. The rats explored the entire area before they ate any of the food! Their need to explore trumped their desire for food.
