Mice are interesting little pets and very entertaining.

If you want a cuddly animal tho, don't get mice. While they do enjoy attention from their humans, they are not very cuddly.

Mice are VERY social animals.I reccommend two or three females.Females do not smell as bad as males and also get along better. Two males will most likely fight to the death (unless they were raised up together and littermates and even then they may fight) and they also have bit of an odor - even with frequent cage cleanings.

And well you do not want to get a male and female, because you will be over run with babies and it is a situation that can get out of hand fast! Mice go into heat every 4-5 days and can get pregnant again 12-24 hours after giving birth.

So my advice to you is get a pair of female mice.

you may look into rats too... as i think they are alittle slower moving and like to cuddle more and get along well almost always.

Mice seam to be great pets! i'd suggest 2 females sence you are new and to tame 3 or more seams to be harder to me... i haven't ever actually had them.

well boy rats seem like their cuddle monsters cuz my girls get out say hi really quick and their off. lol. Anyways yes girls do get along better but I have had male non litter mates get along without ever fighting once but that was a very special and unique case and I would never reccommend trying it with other mice because it can lead to a death right away or over a period of time. Make sure you do not overstock the cage and have enough play tubes and houses. IMO boys should have more human interaction time since they are usually alone most of their lives. They are fun animals I love them but you gotta have patience if they are not well socialized.

i too find male mice more affectionate...i neuter mine

but if smell concerns you and its hard to find a vet to neuter mice then i HIGHLY recommend female mice...its neat to watch them run around and chase each other at night....plus they are afraid of heights so you could set up their house on a table and give them ropes and make your own houses and things for them...thats always fun and watch them in the set up...also with time and effort you can tame them so that they can go onto your hand if you offer it, just remember that they are rewarding in their own ways and to a pt you can play little games with them

I personally like female mice better,as I find them more friendly and affectionate then males. And with rats I prefer males.

But have you tried looking into rats too? They are alot more cuddly then a mouse.

I also always play with the animals before I adopt them. I use bio odor and it seems to help with the smell alot. It doesn't completely go away but it's barely even there. Also I found that if boys breed they stink more.

yes i think mice are great. my mice are adorable and they're so smart and fun to watch. but like the other person said, they aren't cuddly. i have two females and they're really great with eachother. i wouldn't get males though because their urine is a lot more smelly than females'. plus, mouse/rat balls really freak me out, but that's a personal thing lol..

just keep in mind that they are constantly pooping and they have little control over it, so the cage requires frequent cleaning. and their urine is pretty strong smelling.

they are so much fun to watch though. just make sure they have plenty to do. i recommend a wheel, but not all mice will use them. only one of my mice uses the wheel, but he uses it a LOT. the one who doesn't use it is kind of fat.. lol
