Is there a Rat breeder near me?

I wanted to add another rat to my family but before I do I want to see if there's a rat breeder near Houston Texas before I decide to get another member from the pet store.

Heart of Texas Rats

Here are a couple of places to start your searching. I know in their networking they have some folks in Houston but I do not personally know them down there. I guess just click around and see what (who) you can come up with in your area.

Whynot look into rescues or the shelters too? Rescue is good too, actually rescue is ALOT better then buying from a pet store.

I searched anyway and came up with a list of rat breeders in Texas.Have a look thru them.I dunno which are closest to you and whatnot.

If you go to Petfinder.com, there are at least 10 rescue rats listed near there at the moment. (Many in Houston itself, and a few in surrounding towns). I think that would be the best place to start.

try this link:

The Ratster-Directory of rat and mouse breeders.

Click on the state you need and it will show breeders in and around your area.

I lived in the houston area for 15yrs. My mom and sis and fam still live there.

I also lived in La for 10 years. We just moved to NY last August. When looking on the Ratster link, check the La state too. There is a Lafayette breeder. Lafayette is about a 4hr drive from Houston. I believe there is a Beaumont breeder/rescue too. Had we not moved I probably would have checked both of these breeders before getting more ratlets. Good luck on a ratty search

You could also check Craigslist.org for someone looking to rehome their rat.

I think there is a big rat rescue in your area: Houston Rat Rescue. Try googling it. They have a bunch of young, cute rats that look really promising. Good luck!
