To Those With Vocal Rats
Can Animals Laugh? - ebaumsworld.com
Is this what you hear? It's important to know that the reason rats squeak is because that's actually their deepest vocal sound -- it's at the higher end of the frequency spectrum. I guess you could say it's their roar, in a way. Everything else goes upwards from there...out of our normal range. Enjoy the video =].

Oh and please don't read the comments, they're realllly shallow, ignorant, and unintelligent. I'm pretty sure the majority are made by little boys with foul mouths aged 13-17 lol.

I seen that video,it is adorable! I didn't read the comments, because I know they would anger me! Plus I know better, rats are awesome!
However you cannot hear rats laugh with the human ear!It is way too high pitched for us to hear without technology!

Hehe yeah I believe this too, but I'm always open to new possibilities. It's mayyybe possible that some humans have ears that hear slightly above our frequency range and can hear some of the lower frequency rat sounds. Who knows. The reason I'm open to this possibility is because there's actually a sound frequency out there which many adolescents and young folks can hear...but those nearing ages 35-40 and up cannot hear the sound. I'll try to find this sound.

I assume most people on PT will be able to hear the ring in this file.

Oh God, that was most unpleasant. That hurt very badly to tell you the truth. I can actually feel my heart speed up some when I listen to that then slow down when it stops. Weird.
But no, I can not hear her making the laughing noise. Then again, I never tried to tickle her (she is so tiny still). Although I swear when she tangled herself in my hair and I was trying to get her out she was making a sound that sounded like she was laughing. But that might have been my tired imagination.
Her noises are just soft squeaks/pips when she is cuddling, louder ones with she is running about my arms/shoulders, and this stream of squeaks blurred together when I give her a treat. And, of course, the normal grinding of her teeth throughout her time with me.

I could hear that clip, but I generally have good hearing anyway.I could be on the thrid floor of the house and hear a conversation from people on the first floor, even when they would talk quietly. It is crazy.
Your right, some people may be able to hear some of the really high frequency sounds, but those are rare....or like you mentioned, children.
Hehe,I wonder if my daughter can hear the rats laugh!!

my timmy has made the noises yours is making. i think it has to do with the level of bonding between you two. i had timmy out lots yeaterday, and he's in my sleeve...all i hear is eeep! popcorn...eeep! more popcorn...eeep! then he runs up to my shoulder, pops out of my sweater and sniffs my face so heavily he's got some almost-controlled whistle-like while he's sniffing my ears....licks in my ears (greeeaaat) more whilstle sniffing. runs down my sweater popcorns on my lap and eeps at my hand. like...hi bud, coem to my hand, don't yell at it to come over lol if i still don't respond he pounces on me
and so, in accordance with a fair Mythbusters trial....I call this myth PLAUSIBLE
