Weird, Kind of Gross

So, I have the rats out for playtime right now, and Jack just stopped to poop. I knew he was gonna poop because I know his poop stance. No big deal, they have a blanket that goes over the couch to protect it.

The weird part is that Apollo found his way over, saw what Jack was doing, and grabbed the piece of poop in his mouth as it was exiting! It was like he was catching a newly birthed baby or something. So I was like "oh, don't eat that" and he dropped it but I wonder if he would have just sat there and eaten it if I hadn't been there.

I know they eat poop sometimes, but for some reason the thought of him eating his brothers poop totally fresh from his butt was just gross/weird. I had to share.

LOL, I know it doesn't make much sense, but yeah! Hot, steamy fresh poo is grosser than dried up poo. It's gross either way to eat it, but... fresh is nastier. Haha, makes no sense, but whatever.

Hahaha, oh man...my degus do that sometimes. Or one of them will get into their "poop stance" (as you say, lol) and reach down and grab their own poop as it comes out. Ewww, lol.

It might suprise you, but rats eating their own poop is completely normal! I think you may have noticed the poop was brown, which means that it still has neatrants in it, so they would eat it, if it was black though it is slightly weird. It sounds gross but the do it for their own health basically. They won't do it every time, but occationally they will.
