Rats are intelligent, nimble creatures, well-suited to learning simple tricks. Choose a simple trick that involves actions your rat would perform naturally. Rats, like all animals, respond well to positive reinforcement. It is important to use the right treat, as an incentive for your rat. With a little investment of time, you can teach your rat to come when you call it, ride on your shoulder, play with a ball, or any one of a variety of other easy tricks. For best results, you should train your rat over the course of several short training sessions, rather than one long one. You should also be consistent with your demands, and use a single type of treat exclusively for training purposes.
