I Know alot of vets use it because it is suppose to be good.Unfortunately the experience that I had with it being given to a chinchilla resulted in the chins death within an hour after it was given.

Thanks so much everyone , it really gives me a place to start and some food for thought here. Runt I thought of you when all this was running around in my head because you have gliders too. Well here is to hoping we never have to contend with baytril and our sg's.
Critter is it true that birds don't have a problem with overdosing from baytril??
I ask because the most recent death with sg's happened to a man that lost 4 sg's and his vet was joking about how overdosing was very rare with baytril and how he had prescribed it to a lady's bird and she misunderstood and gave .50 to the bird instead of .05 and did this for a week with no ill effects.. That sounds odd to me. One lucky bird

My hamster #1 Stunner accidently ate some flowers, a vase on a table just reached his cage. As I cleaned his cage I noticed one of the leaves and thought "How did that get in here?" Hours later my hamster looked near death, fur was sickly colored, ears pressed back. We took him to our vet and he gave #1 Stunner Baytril and it worked well. #1 Stunner is fine now and that was a little less then a year ago. It probably depends on the type of animal and the dosage! Hope this helps.

I am very late here, but just wanted to let everyone know that the next set of research funded by the MCBA and Whitewoods chinchillas will be related to the use of baytril with chins. It may take awhile, but I'm sure there will be answers to all questions once it is done. The first round of research will eventually be published, and made avaliable to all vets, but I'm told it can be long and tedious. On a personal note, I have used Baytril with great results in adults, and Bactrim on new borns, again with great results.

Wow that would be awesome to have research pertaining to chins. I really hope I am able to find it or hear of it when it is done. The case I am speaking of with the gliders as of 2 days ago I believe it is at a count of 5 gliders that died in a 48 hr period and 2 of those gliders are really quite young , being 4 or 5 monthes old. It is really sad. Thx Shuboyje I will be watching in the future.

Cool

Thanks for the info, Jeff. My formulary finally showed up; it's about 10 years old and doesn't even mention baytril for use in chins. Think it's time I get a new one!!
