I don't know how animals are killed in furfarms in the US to be honest
But if they do it the way you say, it's desgusting...

I like the way they work over here, and if every furfarm worked like the good ones, it would be no problem at all in my world

But thats also why I would never buy a chinchilla coat or mink coat that wasen't made from danish farm animals My mom has a mink coat, and I don't mind this at all

The thing I don't like about PETA, is that they say that ALL furfarms threat their animals awful. It's true that some (in places like China most if nat all) furfarms treat their animals very badly. But they go around saying that this is how it is in the whole world, and this simply isen't true, and it's this think that bugs me.

I do get why some people don't like furfarms! Don't get me wrong! And I do understand why you would want to ban furfarms, if they do not treat their animals right, I would do the same (like I said, I know how they treat the animals - for the most part - in DK, så I don't mind danish fur). But I think it is wrong to say that all furfarms are bad, because some of them are bad. And this is why I don't like PETA and Anima.
I feel the same about people who stop eating meat because of animal welfare. I don't know how the animals are treated in the US, but over here it's just plain stupid to ban meat, because og "animal welfare issues". It is SO easy to get meat where you know the animals were treated right. You have to pay a bit more, but it's worth it in IMO

This is not to say you are wrong Janelle This is just to explain why I look at things the way I do

I think things over here may be,sadly, VERY different. I know there was a huge investigation into how livestock was treated before going to the slaughter house in California. I don't think there is anyone who could watch that video and believe that the animals were being treated humanely.

I think we agree on many things, Chinchi.

Me?
I have 6 at the moment, a 7'th in Norway im too lazy to get (it will cost me about 1000 dkk ($208) to get him, and take the better part of a weekend, kinda hard to fit in with school...)
And they are doing quite fine thanks A breeder over here (a couple of houers away from me), have 29 sick animals though, so I have to wach out. It's so sad. They have the stomach flue, and nobody knows how they got it, and now none of her animals will eat alone
So we have to wach our animals a bit more than usual...

How about you and your animals?

They don't know what went wrong.
It seams like one of her animals suddenly got sick (within a couple of days), and then suddently dies. Then she noticed an other animal was sick, and tried to save it, but it died too. Then an other one got sick, I think that one also died, and then the rest of her animals just got sick one by one.
It looks like it's the first sick animal, that made all the other animals sick. The lab looked at the dead animals, and said they haden't ever seen this specific problem. She ended up giving them antibiotics directly with a needle, and hand-feeding every animal.
It's just so sad, and I feel so sorry for her I don't think it's the food that's the problem. I think one animal simply got sick for some reason (maybe some wet hay?!), and then it just went down hill...

I Personally see no use for fur coats, though I do see leather to be useful. But I have been to europe, and generally the do treat their farm animals well. I was in france, and saw plenty of free range chickens running around.

Just a question:
Don't you have a lot of free range animals?
I actually thought that many animals got out in the summer, in the US...

No. Our animals are treated like crap here. Cows are still slaughtered by quartering and things like that. Not pretty.

Just remember that you guys are in two VERY different countries.

bunnygirl - Why do we need leather? We really don't. I mean, I wear it, cause we eat the rest of the cow (and if I rejected wearing leather cause of how they are treated, I'd have to give up meat, which I don't want to). Bu we really don't need leather for anything nowadays.

Im completly against fur farms and such... I mean, even if the animals are treated right, is it really worth a life (or over 300 lives...) just to look "fashionable"? I still think its sick and cruel...
And every thig in the US is pretty much done unhumanly... No one seems to care whats right, best for the animal, its just whatevers the cheapest.
Thats why im against fur and meat... There are great substitutes for both (like faux fur, and fake meat) that work just as well, and nothing has to die for it.
Im not trying to offend anyone or start something.. Just giving my opinion.

Well, hun, I don't want to burst your bubble, but that's not exactly true.

Millions of small animals like rabbits, voles, snakes, and birds are killed each year by the combines used to harvest things like wheat and soy. So not eating meat does not eliminate animal deaths, and I'm sure those deaths are not even close to humane.

Don't get me wrong, I don't eat meat either, but I do it for personal preference and the idea of the overall environmental benefit that would come with decreased meat consumption.

I belive that we eat too much meat, but I would never give up meat
This is because we are made to be omnivors, so I live like an omnivor
I don't mind people not eating meat, I just think that the whole "we don't need meat" is a bad excuse. We don't need as much meat as most of us who eat meat eat, but we are build to eat meat.
If you don't want to eat it because you think it tastes bad, or because of the way farm-animals are treated, this is fine with me
Where I live, the only good reason for becoming a veteterian is because you don't like meat though, because it's so easy to go out and find meat where you KNOW the animals were treated right

But if everyone went on the veggie diet, we would kill the earth. We just dosen't have the space to produce so much green food. We would have to remove almost every natural flora to make enough food for everyone.
Don't get me wrong! I think it's totally fine if you don't want to eat meat, as long as it's fine if I choose to eat meat And I feel the same way about furfarms
