Wheelie1985 is on a distinguished road

Couple questions...

Two questions, wanted to know everyones opinion.

If your chin isn't otherwise sick, how often should they go for "Checkups"

and

Alot of people give their chins booda bones, nylabones, etc for them to chew on. I know those come in alot of flavors, like veggie, chicken, beef and whatever. Is it okay that they are "flavored?" They also sell them in original..

Just curious, advice please!

:-)

My vet recommends checkups once a year. They like to keep their weights on file, check their teeth, etc. I only have 4 chins, though, so I can do that fairly easily. If I had a whole herd I'd probably only take them in if there was a problem. My vet only charges me for one exotic visit if I take all 4 of mine, so that's what I usually do. Each time I get a new chinnie I take them in to get weighed and check-up'ed and then usually take the others as well. I like for the vet to get a good idea of what they look like normally so that if there's ever a problem they can more easily tell what's wrong.

Yearly is what I recommend typically. Especially for a novice owner or one who isn't as researched in potential problems, etc. Mine go about this often, but I work there so I have a bit of an advantage.

I stay away from the nylabones, etc. because I don't see the need. I don't know what harm there would be, but I'd rather not chance it when I can just as easily get some wooden chew toys for much cheaper.

I'm bad and only take them in if I see something out of sorts. For a new owner I recommend going when you first get the chin ( to make sure that you are comfortable with the vet and your chin, and vice versa), then yearly after that.
I don't use nylabones and don't see the point. There's plenty of 'natural' chewing objects available so why bother?
