Decided to build a Cage

Okay, I have decided to build a cage for the chins....Not that i'm not happy with the Martin's Cage I have I just want something different....
I want to build one that is solid on the back and sides(hopefully to cut down on the poo on my floor....
I really want one that is all wood so I dont have to worry about the wires hurting thier feet

I've done some looking around on the internet and have found a few designs I like....I just wanted to know if anyone had any pictures for cages you may have made or if you had any advice for me.....Open to any and all suggestions and Help!!
Thanks guys!!!

My suggestion would be to use melamine with vent holes in the sides to allow for airflow. Wood cages tend to collect bacteria and if your chins were to get fungus or something similar, you'd have to replace the whole cage (been there, done that.). The melamine can be disinfected and wooden shelves replaced.

My favorite design is the one here: http://www.spoiledchins.net

I agree with Jade on the wood cages.I remember when my hun built me a huge wooden cage.It was the hardest cage I ever had to clean.
My cages now are all wire.
I do like those cages on that site they are very nice.

Melamine cages are definitely the way to go. I have built them for both sets of my chins now. As mentioned earlier, they are easy to clean, sanitary and safe. The only thing I don't like is that they are SO heavy! I have put handles on my cages to make them easier to carry. I am also going to fasten some wheels on the bottom.

Here are some pics. I couldn't get the whole cage in the picture but you get the general idea.

Candycane, I really like your cage,
i've found a design i like at
http://www.chinbin.com/chincage.html, it seems pretty simple to make and most of the melamine cages i've seen look pretty similar....

But how did you fasten you wheel to the cage??? That's been my big worry...everything I have attaches to the side of the wire cage...even thier food bowls, cuz they like to tip them over....

I drilled holes into the side of the melamine and used U-bolts to fasten the wheel. I feel that this is really the best option. It is VERY stable and much quieter than attaching to the wire.
