Litter Training????

Has anyone tried litter traing a Chinchilla???

The local pet store litter trains all their rabbits...they just put this rodent sized litter pan in the spot where the rabbit normally goes potty and there is special Small animal litter and soont the rabbit only goes in the litter, even when it's outta the cage....

My chins some how squash their little butt all the way up the the side of the cage and end up peeing over the side and onto the carpet...they do this from the top level of thier 4 story cage ....these rabbit litter boxes have really high sides so I thought about getting one to see if that would help contain the pee and i wont have to shampoo the carpest every week...

I've check out the litter and it's not like cat litter is more like little round balls...dosent resemble thier bath dust, but I guess I'm asking if anyone else has tried this...I'm afraid to get it and have the chin pee in it and then roll around in it like it's thier bath.....

You can litter train them to urinate sometimes, but mine never learned to cooperate. You'll have to put the litter pan where they normally go and put some litter in it that's been soiled. Clean the rest of the cage well and just leave the soiled litter in the pan. They will hopefully go there from then on, but you never know with chins.

Just FYI, they'll poop all the time, regardless of whether there's a litter pan or not.
