Please Help Quick!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi. I have three adult chinchillas. Two males and a female. One of the males is actually the child of the other two. Well this morning when i woke up i saw that the father had a fairly deep hole on the top of his head.there wasn't too much blood but there was exposed scalp all chewed up and all his fur in the spot was gone. the mother chinchilla is actually EATING the skin around the hole. I have no clue what happened but i know that they have all been together for about nine months and they have never fought or acted like this. The father doesn't seem hurt or in pain and he is letting the mother pick at his wound, i know there is something wrong, what could it be and what should i do?

First thing that I would do is separate the father from the other two (you also may want to separate mother and son if the son is over 8 weeks old, as he can impregnate mom and inbreeding chins can have some unpleasant consequences.).

It could be any number of things, including a wound due to injury or attack, a fungal infection, or something else. I'd put some neosporin on it for now, and make sure it's clean until you can get him to a vet for diagnosis.
